About Ewelands Retreat
Ewelands Retreat is a divine little cottage in the pretty village of Sleights, just minutes from Whitby and the beautiful Yorkshire Coast. With its cosy wood-burning stove, stylish open-plan design and a breath-taking view of the Eskdale Valley from the patio, we think it's the perfect honeymoon hideaway! An idyllic setting for couples looking for a truly romantic holiday cottage on the Yorkshire Coast.
Accessed from the outside by a few steps between paths and set on the lower ground level of the property, Ewelands Retreat feels like a deluxe studio apartment. There is a stylish feel to this luxury cottage, with romantic accents and little touches throughout which gives it a really homely atmosphere.
The kitchen is stocked with top quality Wedgewood crockery and crystal glassware and the cooks among you will delight in the range of Le Crusuet pots and dishes. If you haven't had a chance to make it to the shops yet the goodies on arrival and the honesty bar are a welcome sight.
Perfect for two people, the open plan design feels spacious and cosy at the same time, with a generous sitting room, dining and kitchen area leading onto a wonderfully romantic bedroom - just perfect for a lazy breakfast in bed. For your entertainment there's a SMART TV with wireless Bluetooth speakers and an IPad available for guest's use. The king-size bed boasts a comfy pocket-sprung mattress and is dressed in the finest Egyptian Cotton bed linen.
The bathroom is housed in a separate room and includes a large bath and walk-in power-shower. You'll find complimentary Elemis toiletries as well as fluffy big bath-sheets to snuggle up in. There is also a very handy laundry room which doubles as a storage space. You'll even find some Hunter's Wellies to borrow in here if you want to strike out for a walk across the North York Moors. It's the little extras like this and the devoted attention to detail which makes this romantic Yorkshire Coast cottage such a delight.
French doors open onto a private stone patio with stunning views of the Eskdale Valley below. Throw open the doors and watch the steam trains of the North York Moors Railway puff along below you on their way to Whitby and Pickering. And if you ever tire of the view (which we seriously doubt!) this romantic cottage on the Yorkshire Coast has plenty of other entertainment is provided in the form of a SMART TV, an iPod dock, ceiling surround sound and a library of books, CD's, DVDs and Blu-ray discs.
Outside Ewelands Retreat has a beautiful stone patio and lawned garden complete with patio furniture and a built-in BBQ. Settle down with a glass of wine, a big slice of cake from Bothams of Whitby and just enjoy the view!
Local Area
The location of Ewelands Retreat is fantastic. Perched on the hillside of the beautiful Esk Valley in the village of Sleights, you can be hopping on a steam train at Grosmont or feeling the sand between your toes on Whitby's beach within minutes.
Sleights itself is a peaceful little place with a scattering of shops and places to eat. Just along the road from the cottage you'll find a traditional and welcoming village pub with cask ales, hearty local food and a log fire to keep you warm and toasty in the colder months. And if you decide to eat in you can pick up some excellent local produce from the bespoke butcher and Deli in the village, Radfords. If you are enjoying this luxury cottage near Whitby with children there is also a lovely children's park a short walk away.
A few miles east from the cottage takes you to the stunning North Yorkshire coastline, a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket 'n spade territory. That's not to say it's stuck in the past, in fact the coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.
Although you could happily spend the weekend mooching about the independent shops, bars and cafes along Whitby's bustling medieval streets, it's well worth striking out to sample some of the other coastal villages nearby. Robin Hood's Bay is one of the most popular coastal locations in Yorkshire, or the UK for that matter. The village is a maze of cobbled streets and higgledy piggledy houses which seem to tumble down towards the sea. Sandsend, Staithes and Runswick Bay are also all within easy driving distance, each with their own unique charm.
Head west from the cottage and you can be in the heart of the North York Moors within minutes. Take a tour of the impossibly pretty towns and villages in the area, Egton, Danby, Castleton, Rosedale...Or head up on the high moorland of Castleton Rigg, we guarantee on a clear day it will take your breath away. Suffice to say this area is a walker's paradise and many suggested routes are provided for you in the cottage.
