This lovely cottage is set in the village of Ellerton, a charming little village less than 15 miles from York. You have the best of both worlds here, the delightful small village atmosphere of old Yorkshire twinned with the vibrant city of York.

The jewel in North Yorkshire's crown, we think York is one of the best visitor destinations in England. Make your way around its medieval cobbled streets and discover its many shops, cafes and restaurants.

Ellerton is an ideal base from which to explore the Yorkshire Wolds. Still a relatively quiet location in terms of tourism, the Yorkshire Wolds are a range of beautiful low rolling hills rising from the Humber River and sweeping along to the stunning cliffs at Flamborough Head, peppered with countless pretty villages and towns. A favourite with David Hockney, it inspired many of his greatest works including 'Bigger Trees Near Warter’.

The gentle nature of the countryside here makes it an excellent location for walking and cycling. The Wolds are home to many historical homes and religious sites, as well as one of Yorkshire's largest lavender gardens.

You are also well-placed to discover the stunning North York Moors, this dramatic landscape of heather and open moorland is around 25 miles away. Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the Dales you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. Yet there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the Moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks you'll find gentle rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it’s cast in comforting soft focus.

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. Perfect for peace and quiet but only a short drive into the center of York (35 mins to parked in the train station). The cottage is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Highly recommended and will definitely use it as a base for York again.

A beautiful cottage in a very peaceful location. Very cosy and warm. Ideal for visiting the local area - York, Beverley, Castle Howard. Plenty of local pubs within a 10 - 15 minute drive serving good food. Village pub but only serves drinks.

Lovely cottage in a very peaceful location. About 25 minutes drive from York. The beds were super comfy and the bath in the main bedroom was very welcoming after a day out and about. We really enjoyed our week at Harry's Stable. The peace and quiet were well appreciated. One negative comment would be about the washhand basin. It was a little high for me and I felt that it could be quite a waste of water. All the pets and wildlife were lovely to enjoy. Beautiful cottage, located in a quiet rural area. You do need a car. Absolutely ideal for those that need easy access (I am disabled), especially the bathroom. Very well located for visiting York, and only an hour from the seaside too. You will be made to feel very welcome by the owner, and also her very well behaved dogs
