Dating back to the 17th Century, Higher Scarcliffe is a traditional long house which has been transformed into a simply stunning luxury holiday cottage. Nestling in the south-western foothills of the Yorkshire Dales with its elevated position in the hills above Skipton, the views of the Yorkshire countryside and the Dales beyond are truly breath-taking. With the choice of two grand sitting rooms, a formal dining room, a mezzanine level and three generous bedrooms, come and experience the luxury of space in one of Yorkshire's finest holiday cottages.
Before you open the door to Higher Scarcliffe you know you have discovered a very special place. The views on the way up here are spectacular, and on reaching the cottage you find it's placed perfectly to enjoy them. But the views of the Yorkshire Dales are just one reason to fall in love with Higher Scarcliffe. Step inside to discover an interior perfectly pitched between the traditional and the contemporary, where modern art and classic style combine effortlessly to create a luxurious but comfortable feel.
In the first of the grand sitting rooms you'll find a huge stone fireplace reaching up to the top of the double height ceiling, a large picture window offering those amazing views and a stylish mezzanine level accessed via chunky wooden stairs. There is a sofa-bed up here which can be hidden away with behind wooden screens to effectively create a fourth bedroom space if required. There is a fantastic sense of space in this large room, a true luxury in modern times. The second of the two sitting rooms, with its rusty red walls and old stone hearth, is equally charming. It's cosy and warm, the perfect choice for later in the evening when you feel like curling up in front of the TV or relaxing with after-dinner drinks.
Next door is the formal dining room, a grand and peaceful room with calming shades of green. Expect many wonderful candle-lit evenings gathered around the large antique table. The kitchen of this luxury Yorkshire Dales cottage sits beside the dining room and has a less formal dining table, perfect for breakfast or lunch. There are also two downstairs Cloakrooms, one of which has a very handy OS map of the area on the walls for you to study.
Upstairs along the luxuriously long landing are three beautiful bedrooms, all of which can be made up as doubles or twins. The first is a lovely large bedroom featuring open beams in the ceiling and an en suite bathroom complete with a bath and shower. The remaining two bedrooms share a family bathroom at the end of the landing. All of the bedrooms have a very classic, comfortable and stylish feel with antique furniture, exquisite cotton bedding and stylish use of fabrics for dashes of colour. As with downstairs, there are several pieces of contemporary art on the walls including some beautiful images of Higher Scarcliffe itself.
Continuing outside, there is a sheltered patio area with outdoor furniture, a wonderful place to sit and gaze at those stunning views. And in the summer months we defy anyone to find a better spot for lunch in the whole of the Yorkshire Dales. There is also a BBQ available and a glamorous fire pit next to the holiday cottage. Enjoy a spot of traditional story-telling and songs by the fire each evening, and when you feel the need to indulge in more contemporary entertainment, Higher Scarcliffe also features Wi-Fi and a full SKY TV package.
