Experience first-hand York's Medieval history! Lendal Tower is a fabulous 3-bedroom luxury holiday rental housed in a Grade 1 listed tower dating back over 700 years. With its central location, pretty garden by the river and roof terrace with panoramic views over the city, Lendal Tower is simply the place to stay in York.
Now a listed monument, the Lendal Tower dates back to the reign of Richard the Lion Heart and has stood by the river Ouse since 1299. Last renovated in 2010, a team of skilled craftsmen set about transforming it into a unique and stunning holiday home.
Although much care and attention has been paid to retain the character and historical importance, contemporary comforts have been added throughout; each of the bedrooms has an LCD TV & DVD Player, the kitchen boasts a shiny SMEG fridge and there is Freeview TV and a Wii to keep you amused.
Lendal Tower holiday rental in York is surprisingly spacious inside. On the ground level you'll find a very comfortable sitting room with flag-stone flooring, exposed oak beams and a double height ceiling taking you up to the mezzanine floor. There is a very pleasant dining area and kitchen here too, with a handy downstairs WC and shower room.
Heading up the spiral stairs takes you to the first of the 3 double bedrooms; a bright and stylish bedroom housed on the mezzanine level. Onwards and upwards and you arrive at the second bedroom. Wood-paneled walls, a stone fire-place and grand 4-poster bed set a romantic note. The third bedroom is much the same, with sumptuous furnishings and rich indulgent theme. Both of the main bedrooms feature stunning views of York and the river as well as having luxurious en suite bathrooms.
Outside Lendal Tower has a really pretty garden with uninterrupted views along the river, the perfect spot for lunch al fresco in the warmer months. The star of the show is the breath-taking roof-top terrace with 360 degree views of York. We don't think there is a terrace or balcony in York to match it. It's the perfect spot to sip on a G & T and plan which restaurant to book that evening. To check availability for this luxury holiday rental in York just click on the calendar.
The jewel in North Yorkshire's crown, we think York is one of the best break destinations in England. But don't just take our word for it. Voted 'Best UK City' by the Telegraph's travel section in 2008, York is a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers.
This ancient walled city has been the north's spiritual capital for 2000 years, but that's not say it is stuck in the past; York's affluent young student population and its influx of tourist pounds has helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History seeps out of every cobbled street, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
Lendal Tower enjoys an enviable location by the river in York's city centre. Located just by Lendal bridge the bustling city centre and the famous York Minster and Shambles are just a few minutes' walk from your door.
Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the old 14th Century city walls. Middle age town planning means it can take quite some time to get your bearings, but finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun. A word of warning to the girls; bring some flats for sight-seeing / shopping, the cobbles play hell with heels.
And what's more, it really is a year-round location. Summer days are spent lounging in one of the many gorgeous parks throughout the city and in the Autumn York comes alive with shop windows sparkling in the dusky light. Its central location also makes a great base from which to explore the rest of glorious Yorkshire, with the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Yorkshire Coastline all within easy reach.
