Published on: 03 January 2018
Welcome to Manor Grange, a handsome stone-built barn conversion set on the cusp of Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales. With generous accommodation and an elegant under-stated style, this is a gorgeous cottage just perfect for an escape to the country.
Subject to a recent refurbishment, Manor Grange has been lovingly transformed into a spacious and welcoming holiday home. Downstairs you'll find a bright open-plan space home to the lounge, kitchen and breakfast bar area. Oak floorboards underfoot and exposed beams overhead give the room bags of warmth and character.
In the lounge take your pick from a comfy sofa or armchair, and curl up with a good book for the afternoon. For your entertainment there's a SMART TV with Netflix, perfect if you fancy a movie night after a day exploring the Dales. Wi-Fi is also provided.
Make your way over to the generous kitchen complete with its cream shaker style units and breakfast bar. The facilities include a double oven cooker with induction hob, microwave as well as the all the usual small appliances. A separate boot room is home to a dishwasher and fridge.
The master bedroom in Manor Grange is set upstairs. This large room boasts a superking-sized bed to enjoy every evening as well as lovely views out across open countryside. Exposed beams overhead lend further character to this room. There's also a TV up here if you fancy catching up on some morning telly in your PJs?
The house bathroom is next door. It's home to a large walk-in shower, perfect for jumping into each morning to wake you up.
There is much to enjoy outside this rural holiday home too. Discover a large enclosed garden with a lawned area perfect for picnics, as well as a separate patio area complete with table and chairs. It's a very pleasant spot for lunch al fresco, or perhaps an afternoon G & T!
Manor Grange is set within open countryside on the outskirts of Newton-le-Willows, a pretty little village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Equidistant from the Yorkshire market towns of Bedale and Leyburn, the village itself is charming and there is a gorgeous tea room with great views just a few minutes' walk from the cottage.
Beyond the village the attractive town of Bedale is worth a visit. Stop for a coffee before making your way around the town's antique shops. In the opposite direction you'll find the charming market town of Leyburn. Leyburn is an archetypical slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The historic town of Richmond is close by and similar in many ways, and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.
Nearby you'll also find Masham, a thriving market town where handsome old Georgian buildings gather politely around a cobbled square. The square is one of the largest and finest in England famous for its sheep sale where in the past as many as 70,000 sheep were sold here every year! The popular Masham Sheep Fair is held in September each year and commemorates these times.
There are lots of delights to discover in the town including an excellent fine dining restaurant, a host of lovely cafes, a top-notch wine shop and several very good butchers. And if you enjoy a tipple or two, it's also home to two award-winning breweries, Theakstons and Black Sheep. Both have visitor centres where you can take brewery tours, sample their ales, enjoy excellent food and perhaps take a few bottles home for later too! A lovely 9 hole golf course awaits if you enjoy a round of golf.
There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of Manor Grange. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are just a few miles away and the gorgeous villages of West Burton and Askrigg are within easy driving distance, so lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about. If walking is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise. And there are plenty of options for cycling too in Tour De France country. Our concierge will be more than happy to recommend some walks and cycle routes for you if required.
And when you need to refuel stop at one of the areas many excellent gastro pubs. Our favourites include the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton, the Blue Lion at East Witton and of course the Wyvill Arms just along the road.
