  • Charming barn conversion in peaceful rural setting with idyllic garden with al fresco dining table, swing and see-saw

  • River and parkland walks on the doorstep, located between the grand Yorkshire estates of Sandhall and Saltmarshe
Property code: G0104

Looking out over an apple orchard which gives the cottage its name, this charming barn conversion offers an attractive interior and a peaceful rural setting. Boasting everything you could need for a relaxing break in this captivating part of Yorkshire, the property is beautifully furnished and set betwixt the two grand Yorkshire estates of Sandhall and Saltmarshe. The perfect escape to the country.

All the accommodation in the cottage is on one level and at the heart of this property is the open-plan living space. The light and comfortable lounge area has plenty of space to relax and unwind with a choice of two sofas to curl up on. You can light the wood burner for extra cosiness and spend an evening catching up on your favourite shows on the TV and DVD.

Stylish room dividers help to separate the sitting area from the kitchen/diner which has everything you need to rustle up something delicious and then enjoy it with family or friends afterwards. Clean units and solid wooden worktops give the kitchen a chic country look and you'll find a gas oven and hob, fridge, sink and handy dishwasher, so no-one has to do the washing up. The large circular wooden dining table sits at the heart of the kitchen. A separate utility area is right next to the kitchen and contains a freezer, washing machine and microwave. You'll also find a rail for coats and extra storage for your boots and shoes.

The cottage has two large bedrooms which both have super king-size beds and access to their own bathrooms - after all who wants to share when you can have your own? Each bedroom can be set up with twin beds if preferred making this property flexible for couples, families, and groups of friends.

Bedroom one leads off from the kitchen (up a small step) and mixes warm hues with classic painted furniture pieces including an antique occasional chair. This bedroom has its own en-suite shower room with a large shower to get you ready for the day ahead. Please note, there is a small step into the shower. Bedroom two is at the other side of the cottage and is an elegant oasis of calm with muted tones. Right next to this bedroom is the separate family bathroom which includes a P-shaped bath, overhead shower, Karndean slate grey flooring and a light-up cosmetic mirror.

Outside the property is a small apple orchard where you can watch your children playing on the swing and seesaw whilst enjoying a drink on the paved area under the apple trees.

This cottage has a beautiful rural location situated close to 100 acres of rural park and farmland beside the River Ouse in Howdenshire. There is a myriad of tranquil river and parkland walks from the doorstep and you are surrounded by lush green landscapes at every turn. The charming market town of Howden is close by with its ancient streets, quaint shops, cafes, wine bars, Heritage Centre and historical buildings to explore. See if you can spot the tower of Howden Minster from the cottage.

Set right by the river, you can watch the tall masts of ships passing by on their way up the river to Goole. It's so peaceful here, you won't want to leave. There are wide paths for walkers/riders around the park, we recommend the river walk along to Blacktoft to the local pub for a spot of lunch. And if you feel like dining in, we recommend the short trip to Howden. Stock up on the finest Yorkshire produce here, from excellent homemade bread to the most amazing pies and cakes. While you're there, it would be a shame not to stop and enjoy a cup of tea and something sweet!

Howden is an ideal base from which to explore all that this area of Yorkshire has to offer. You are perfectly placed to explore York (21 miles), the Wolds to the east and the North York Moors to the north. The beautiful city of Beverley is just 22 miles from the cottage. Discover the stunning Beverley Minster before indulging in a spot of shopping around its lively cobbled squares.

Further east get to know the Yorkshire Wolds, a range of low rolling hills rising from the River Humber and sweeping along to the stunning cliffs at Flamborough Head. This landscape was an inspiration to David Hockney with much of his work based on the countryside here. You can follow the Hockney Trail to discover the setting of some of his more famous works.

The Wolds are also home to a wealth of historical homes and religious sites as well as one of Yorkshire's largest lavender gardens. And for kids, there are heaps of fantastic attractions nearby (indoor and out) including the excellent Yorkshire Wildlife Park (23 miles) and The Deep in Hull (26 miles). Or if you enjoy a spot of twitching, you're in heaven here with many excellent bird watching sites within easy reach. Try North Cave Wetlands (11.5 miles) and The Delph, Saltmarshe (5 miles).

Lovely remote cottage on private farmland. Owner is nearby if needed. Very clean and comfortable. All amenities provided and working. We used the cottage as our base to visit Hull, the North Yorkshire Moors, and was mainly chosen for ease of access for our planned trip on the Statesman Pullman from Selby Station. Would recommend.

An average cottage in a quiet location. Did the job for a few nights away. The cottage is quite basic and could probably do with sprucing up a little. More like a 3-4 star rather than a 5

Wonderfully relaxing holiday! A mix up over beds was sorted very promptly by the owner. There was even the offer of electric fans as it was unusually hot weather, but the cottage stayed surprisingly cool (even with the garden in full sun) & no fans were needed. The location is stunning for local walks, & York, Bridlington & Beverley are relatively Read more'local'. The cottage is luxuriously comfortable. Only concern was seeing wasps around fallen apples near the door - but even they didn't bother us! Hide
