Welcome to Osgodby Cottage, a quintessentially English double-fronted cottage set in a pretty village on the Yorkshire coast. Handsome outside and in, this chocolate box cottage boasts spacious contemporary interiors, a beautiful large garden and a great location just a hop, skip and a jump from some of Yorkshire's best beaches. The perfect family holiday home.
Dating back to the 1800s, Osgodby Cottage has been subject to a recent refurbishment designed to maximise contemporary comfort. From the moment you walk through the door you feel relaxed and completely at home.
Step inside to discover a generous open-plan living area home to the lounge and dining room. Wooden floorboards and rugs throughout lend warmth and character to this room. In the lounge you'll find a brace of comfy leather sofas and a handsome armchair to snuggle up on. Light up the wood-burner and settle down with for the evening with a glass of something good. Entertainment is provided by a Freeview TV and DVD player. Wi-Fi is also available.
On the opposite side of the room is the spacious dining area. Gather the family around the chunky oak dining table and plan your day over a lazy breakfast. Seating up to 6 people comfortably, this is a table to make memories around.
The kitchen is at the rear of the cottage looking out over the lovely garden. This spacious elegant room combines the traditional with the contemporary perfectly. Stylish stone-grey units sit comfortably alongside a Belfast sink and striking red AGA. There's also a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and coffee machine for your elevenses.
Opposite the kitchen is a further lounge / sitting room, a huge advantage when the kids (and adults!) need their own space. With French doors opening out into the beautiful garden, this is a charming room to squirrel yourself away in for an afternoon.
All of the bedrooms in Osgodby Cottage are upstairs, the first of which is the gorgeous master bedroom. Set at the front of the cottage looking out over the village green, this generous room boasts a handsome French bed, wall-mounted TV and en-suite shower room. Bedroom 2 is also at the front of the cottage and offers a King-size wooden bed and TV. Bedroom 3 is a charming twin room with beautiful brass beds and views out over the garden from the Juliet balcony.
The first floor is also home to the stunning family bathroom. This large room features a freestanding claw-foot bath to sink into and a large walk-in shower. There's an additional handy loo downstairs.
Let's explore the gardens of this coastal cottage. Making your way out from the kitchen or the rear sitting room you'll discover a charming and sizable garden, perfect for families to enjoy together. There's a sheltered patio with garden furniture and a gas BBQ so you can make the most of those warm summer evenings. Put the prosecco on ice and enjoy!
There's also a lawned area perfect for picnics and toddling around by little ones. As an added bonus, there's off-road parking for up to 2 cars.
Osgodby Cottage has a fantastic location set in the heart of a charming little village close to the Yorkshire Coast. You'll find every local amenity just a short walk away including several pubs and local shops. The popular coastal town of Filey is just a few minutes away by car where you'll find a glorious sweep of soft golden sand backed by Edwardian townhouses stretching along the promenade. Recently named 'Beach of the Year' by The Time, it's the perfect place to blow away the cobwebs followed by a hot chocolate in one of the cosy cafes in town.
Just a few miles further North takes you to the much-loved resort of Scarborough. Make your way up through the historic streets to explore Scarborough Castle, or pop into St Mary's churchyard to visit Ann Bronte's grave. Enjoy a stroll around the South Cliff area taking in the famous Spa and Italian Gardens. Catch the Cliff lift down to the beach and walk around to the peaceful North Bay, visit the renowned Sea Life centre or explore the beautiful Peasholm Park with its boating lake, woodland walks and oriental influences.
Osgodby Cottage is also within easy reach of the rest of the Yorkshire Coast. Much like its Cornish counterpart, the North Yorkshire coastline is a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket 'n spade territory. That's not to say it's stuck in the past, in fact the coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.
This region is best known for the gorgeously gothic town of Whitby. Playing host at one time to Romans, Saxons, Celts and Danes amongst others, the town's rich heritage is immediately obvious. Straddling the river Esk and dominated by the 13th Century ruins of St Hilda's Abbey on the East Cliff, Whitby's crooked cobbled streets and picturesque harbour have been a magnet for artists and tourists alike for centuries. Robin Hood's Bay, Sandsend, Staithes and Runswick Bay are also worth a visit, and each have their own unique charm.
Osgodby Cottage also sits at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds. These rolling green hills inspired the work of David Hockney and offer a gentle beautiful landscape to explore on foot or two wheels.
York and the North York Moors are also within easy reach and make a fantastic choice for a day trip.
