Welcome to River View, a gorgeous 3-storey holiday cottage set in one of North Yorkshire's prettiest villages. As the name suggests, the cottage looks directly out onto a meandering river making its way lazily through this picturesque village.
Inside you'll find a stylish and immaculately presented property perfect for couples and small families alike.
Subject to a recent refurbishment, River View is a beautiful Victorian terrace which has been transformed into an elegant holiday cottage sleeping up to 4 people. Step inside to discover a bright and sunny home with a classic mix of traditional and contemporary style throughout.
On ground level you'll find an open plan space home to the lounge, kitchen and breakfast bar area. Discover solid oak flooring throughout which feels warm underfoot. In the lounge sunlight streams in the restored sash windows where handsome shutters are in place for your privacy. A cosy wood-burner keeps everything nice and toasty and you have the choice of a comfy sofa and two easy chairs to curl up on. There's an LCD TV with Freeview, a DVD Player and Wi-Fi is provided too.
Moving through to the rear of the cottage you'll find the kitchen complete with cream units, a Belfast sink and a chunky oak worktop. All the usual mod cons are provided including a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and ceramic hob. A further utility houses a washing machine & dryer and a handy downstairs cloakroom.
Make your way upstairs to find a snug area complete with two armchairs and an original fireplace lending character to the room. It's a nice spot to escape to with a good book and a cup of Yorkshire tea.
The first of the two bedrooms is on this floor, a gorgeous room featuring an iron double bed, exposed white floorboards and another original fireplace. Take in the stunning views from this window out across the river and along the village high street. This floor is also home to the house bathroom complete with a bath to sink into each evening and a monsoon shower overhead.
The second bedroom is on the next floor in the eaves of the house. Boasting a striking exposed brick wall and further stunning views, it's another delightful bedroom to enjoy.
Outside the cottage there's a sunny seating area overlooking the river and village which takes full advantage of its elevated position. It's a heavenly spot for your morning coffee or afternoon G & T. And just a few hundred yards from the house is a lovely waterfall and village green area perfect for throwing out a picnic blanket in the summer months. The resident ducks will be only too pleased to say hello!
River View is set in an elevated position in the heart of Great Ayton, a very pretty village on the cusp of the North York Moors National Park. This picturesque village was once the childhood home of Captain James Cook. A museum celebrating his life is available to look around just a few doors down from the cottage.
Great Ayton offers lots more to see and do including an excellent restaurant and two great dining pubs within easy walking distance from the cottage, Suggitts ice-cream parlour (said by some to be the best in Yorkshire) several nice cafes and an excellent fish and chip shop. You'll also discover lovely riverside and country walks taking you up the stunning Roseberry Topping which looks down over the village. And in the summer months mosey over to the cricket ground and enjoy an afternoon watching this quintessential English pastime over a cider or two.
Just a few miles away is the beautiful market town of Stokesley. Hosting a market every Friday on its handsome cobbled square, this charming Georgian town offers a host of independent shops, cafes and restaurants to try.
A few miles south up the hills takes you into the North York Moors proper. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1987, the lush pastures and woodlands of the western Moors play host to grand country houses, atmospheric ruins and handsome market towns. One of the nicest ways to see this countryside is by train. Hope on at Great Ayton station and head all the way to Whitby on the coast.
There are some stunning walks right from your doorstep, and you are just a few miles from the famous Cleveland Way. The beautiful market town of Helmsley is within easy driving distance and is a must on any visit to this area. If you fancy a little pampering you'll find the Verbena Spa here; perfect for a little me time indulgence!
You're also close to Castle Howard, York and the North Yorkshire coast, so lots of choice for day trips.
