About Rosemary Cottage

Welcome to Rosemary Cottage, a truly gorgeous country cottage with chocolate box good looks and a beautiful village location. This quintessentially English cottage is set on the borders of North Yorkshire and Durham, so you are well placed to explore the delights of both counties. With a lovely pub just a stone's throw away, this special little cottage is just perfect for honeymoons and romantic escapes with your loved one.

If you closed your eyes and pictured the perfect holiday cottage, we're pretty sure it would look something like Rosemary Cottage. Set in a beautiful walled garden the immaculate double-fronted stone cottage is like something from a fairy-tale. Step inside the sage green door to discover a stunning contemporary holiday home with character at every turn.

Boasting beautiful flagstone floors with underfloor heating throughout, the open plan living area is home to the lounge, kitchen and dining area. At the heart of this room is a breath-taking stone inglenook fireplace, with a cosy wood-burner sitting inside. All wood and kindling for the burner are provided for you. There's a large and comfortable sofa complete with a cosy throw, perfect for curling up on together while you catch a movie on the LCD TV. There's also Netflix, a DVD player and Wi-Fi available.

The gorgeous kitchen sits to the rear of the cottage, an elegant and well thought-out out space with glossy white work-tops and contemporary grey units. A dishwasher, microwave and built in hob / oven are included. A separate utility to the rear of the cottage houses a washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer. You'll find the cupboards well stocked with crockery and utensils, everything you'll need to rustle up a romantic dinner for two. There's also a yummy welcome hamper waiting for you on arrival. The sweet dining area sits next to the fire, a lovely spot whatever the time of day.

The heated flagstone flooring continues into the bedroom, a peaceful and romantic room featuring a king-size bed dressed in the finest luxury bedding. What a joy waking up in this beautiful room, knowing there's no rush to get out of bed. The house bathroom sits next door. Again with heated flagstone flooring there is a walk-in shower and a separate bath in here. So plenty of candle-lit soaks with a glass of bubbly in hand!

Outside the cottage there's that quintessential English walled garden to enjoy. A patio area next to the house comes complete with patio furniture for those long lazy lunches in the sun. Afterwards throw down a blanket on the lawn and indulge yourself with a little snooze. There is also a pleasant paved area to the rear of the cottage which has its own bistro table and chairs. A lovely spot for that morning coffee, or perhaps the afternoon G & T...

The separate utility to the rear of the cottage is perfect for storing muddy boots after a hike across the Dales, and is also ideal for storing bikes if cycling is your thing.

Local Area

Rosemary Cottage has a great location, nestling in a picture-postcard village on the borders of North Yorkshire and Durham. With less than an hour's drive to the coast and the City of York it's an ideal basecamp from which to strike out and discover these unique Yorkshire locations. Reeth and the stunning landscapes of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale are all within easy reach and it's also well placed for a day trip over to the Lakes and Durham City if you want to explore those areas too. And if you feel like a spot of pampering, there's also a fantastic Spa just a few miles down the road.

The cottage is set within a village which comes complete with a lovely village pub. It's the perfect location if you enjoy walking as its on the Teesdale Way, and there are lots of beautiful walks from the doorstep. You'll find more really breath-taking trails just a few miles south in Swaledale.  If you're a bit of a foodie there are several excellent dining pubs in the area, including The Morritt Arms Hotel, the gorgeous Oak Tree Inn in Hutton Magna, the Black Bull at Moulton and the Shoulder of Mutton at Middleton Tyas. Cross Lanes, an award winning organic Deli, is also just minutes from the cottage.

4 miles West of Rosemary Cottage is the charming town of Barnard Castle. Recently listed as one of the top 10 rural places to live in the UK, it's a pretty little place with a host of boutique shops, cafes and pubs to explore. The excellent Bowes Museum is here and is well worth a visit. And as the name would suggest there's an historic English Heritage castle to explore too.

This romantic cottage is also just a few miles away from Richmond, an historic market town with much to offer the discerning holiday-maker.  Explore the cobbled market square or head up towards Richmond Castle for a slice of Yorkshire history.

Just a short drive from the cottage takes you into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.  Head up through the Stang forest towards Reeth and on towards Hawes in Wensleydale for a true taste of this magnificent countryside.  Stop at the Wensleydale Heiffer for lunch before heading back to the comfort of your cosy cottage.

Further south, you'll find the pretty market town of Northallerton where handsome Georgian houses line the long main street.  The wonderful Betty's Tearooms is here as is a fantastic local deli, Lewis & Cooper's Food Emporium and of course the quintessentially Yorkshire department store of Barkers.

To take in the North York Moors head further south still and brave it up Sutton Bank, the view from the top said by some to be the finest in all of England.  The gorgeous market town of Helmsley makes for the perfect pit-stop and if you feel like something special for lunch make your way to the Star Inn at Harome.
