A charming and cosy 2-bedroom country cottage set in a pretty Wensleydales village, welcome to Scar View Cottage. Dating back to the 19th Century, this stone-built cottage is perfect for couples and small families to base themselves and explore this stunning part of the Yorkshire Dales. And with the excellent Wensleydale Heifer restaurant in the village plus a pub, tea rooms and traditional village store, there's plenty to keep you happy just a stone's throw away.
Scar View Cottage has considerable kerb appeal with its traditional stone exterior, cream sash windows and lush green climber around the door. Step inside to discover warm and surprisingly spacious accommodation boasting not just one but two wood-burners keeping the cottage nice and toasty.
The first of which can be found in the lounge, a traditional room with a country-cottage ambiance. There is the choice of two comfy sofas to curl up on, so get the fire roaring and take your pick. There are stunning views of Wensleydale from the picture window in this room. And when you can drag yourself away from them an LCD Freeview TV, DVD Player and lots of DVDs are provided for you, perfect for a cosy night in watching a movie. Wi-Fi is provided too as well as a selection of books, maps, local guides and board games for off-line entertainment.
Next door is the generous dining room. A very pleasant space home to a dining table and 4 chairs set beside the second wood burner. What could be more atmospheric than a candlelit dinner with the fire glowing in the back ground. Breakfast by the fire is also pretty yummy too. Logs are supplied for you and there is an MP3 player so you can dine to your favourite playlist.
The kitchen sits to the rear of the property and continues the warm country look with its cream units and chunky oak worktops. You'll find a dishwasher and washer/dryer in here as well as plenty of equipment to rustle up a hearty family meal. You'll also arrive to a welcome hamper with goodies sourced from the local village shop. For your convenience, there is a downstairs WC.
Both bedrooms in Scar View Cottage are upstairs and are again surprisingly spacious for a traditional stone cottage. The first bedroom is at the front of the property and like the lounge boasts spectacular views of Wensleydale. There's a super-king size bed in this room which can also be set up as two singles if preferred. The second bedroom comes complete with a king-size memory foam mattress and again offers plenty of room to relax. Both bedrooms have their own Freeview TVs and DVD players.
The house bathroom is also upstairs, a bright and contemporary room with a bath and shower overhead. If you've been out walking in the Dales you can look forward to a long hot soak in the tub before dinner. Other little comforts include underfloor heating and a heated towel rail.
Outside the cottage there is a small enclosed courtyard with patio furniture for four. There's also a BBQ provided for those warmer summer evenings. Keen cyclists will enjoy the fact that there is lockable storage available too.There is a designated parking space on the road to the front of the cottage or further room a few hundred yards along the road.

Scar View Cottage is set in the heart of West Witton, one of Wensleydale's prettiest villages. Just down the road is the famous Wensleydale Heifer, repeatedly recognised as one of Yorkshire's finest restaurants. So if you don't fancy cooking one evening just mosey over for dinner. The village also has a charming little village store, tearooms and post office, all just seconds from your door. Further up you'll find the village green and pond, a peaceful spot and rather nice for a picnic. Across the dale you can see Bolton Castle on the horizon, a fantastic day out for all ages.
If walking is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise. And there are plenty of options for cycling too in Tour De France country. You can strike out literally from the doorstep up over Penhill and beyond, or take one of the other many walking routes in Wensleydale including making your way down past the stunning Jervaulx Abbey, just a few miles down the road. Our concierge will be more than happy to recommend some walks and cycle routes for you if required.
Middleham, one of Yorkshire's loveliest villages is just a few miles away. Famous for its castle (once home to Richard III) it's also home to several race-horse trainers; you will see and hear the horses being lead through the village up to the gallops every day. And to top it off there is a lovely collection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. We love it so much it features in our Top 10 Prettiest Yorkshire Villages. Just a few miles out of the village is the fantastic attraction The Forbidden Corner. Regularly voted the best family attraction in Yorkshire, it's also well worth a look even if there are no children in your party.
Nearby you'll find the charming market town of Leyburn. Leyburn is an archetypical slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond is similar in many ways, and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.
There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of Scar View Cottage. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are just a few miles away and the gorgeous villages of West Burton and Askrigg are within easy driving distance, so lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about.
And when you need to refuel stop at one of the areas many excellent gastro pubs. As well as the Wensleydale Heifer in the village there's the Blue Lion at East Witton and The Sandpiper Inn at Leyburn and many more, all within a short drive of the cottage.
