About Secret View

Tucked away in the rolling Howardian Hills just 30 minutes north of York, Secret View is a cosy country retreat with gorgeous Yorkshire countryside on the doorstep. Perfect for couples and small families looking to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Set in an elevated position within a row of charming stone cottages, this handsome 2-bedroom property boasts far reaching views and contemporary elegant interiors. Step inside to discover an open-plan living space home to the lounge, kitchen and dining area. All of the soft furnishings including the cushions and lampshades have been hand-stitched by a local craftsman and walls boast original art by an award winning artist.

The living room with its statement panelled wall offers plenty of options for relaxing, with 2 armchairs and a comfy sofa to choose from. The real-flame effect electric fire keeps everything nice and toasty in the evening and provides a pleasant warm glow to curl up by. The LCD TV comes complete with Freeview and a DVD player if you want to bring along some of your favourite movies. There's also a selection of DVDs to choose from at the cottage along with some books and games for off-line entertainment.

Make your way on through to the shaker-style kitchen with its attractive grey units and chunky wooden work-top. You'll find all the usual mod-cons including a dishwasher, fridge and oven, with a further cupboard under the stairs housing a washing machine and freezer. The dining table sits right beside the kitchen. Arrive to find a yummy welcome hamper from the local upmarket Deli to enjoy...

Both bedrooms in Secret View are upstairs. The main bedroom sits at the front of the house and enjoys those glorious views across the fields. The double bed in here features a fabulous green velvet head board (again hand-stitched) which is complemented with crisp white sheets and tartan cushions. The second bedroom is to the rear of the cottage and has a full size single bed. There are more stunning views from this bedroom in the opposite direction, right across to the Vale of York.

The family bathroom is also upstairs. We love the striking teal walls and the large walk-in shower. A heated towel rail is a welcome feature.

Outside the cottage to the front you will find off-road parking and excellent views. There is also a small courtyard patio to the rear, a real sun trap in the warmer months and perfect for this afternoon G & Ts!

Local Area

Secret View is set within a small hamlet on the brow of a hill around 20 minutes north of York. Its surrounded by stunning views and some lovely villages, with lots of walks right from the doorstep. You'll find some recommended routes prepared for you in the cottage.

Perfectly positioned to visit the very best of North Yorkshire, Secret View sits in an area called the Howardian Hills.  Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1987, this land of lush pastures and woodlands plays host to grand country houses, atmospheric ruins and handsome market towns.

The nearest village is Terrington, a very pretty little place where you'll find a sleepy main street lined with charming cottages, a church and a shop/cafe. The village is within walking distance to the cottage. Nearby there's an award-winning Lavender farm, with its deer and sculpture park, tearoom and gift shop it's a great day out for all ages.

A village of Sheriff Hutton is just a few miles away, a charming little place very typical of this area of Yorkshire.  You'll find two pubs, the local store, an excellent wine shop and a delightful upmarket Deli/Cafe here called Quarmby's.  In the opposite direction you'll find the gorgeous village of Hovingham again just a few miles away, a real picture postcard North York Moors village with chocolate box sandstone cottages, a tea-room and a couple of pubs to choose from.

Stunning Castle Howard is less than 10 minutes' drive away and a must during your visit to this area. This stunning stately home and gardens is a pleasure to walk around, and there's a lovely lakeside cafe to enjoy too. On your way home pop into the outstanding farm shop and deli here to stock up on the finest local produce.

The beautiful market town of Helmsley is within easy driving distance and is well worth a visit.  If you fancy a little pampering you'll find the Verbena Spa here; perfect for a little me time indulgence! And in the opposite direction foodie Malton is another market town worth a stop.

You're also close to York and the Yorkshire coast, so lots of choice for day trips.
