About The Dairy Shed
The Dairy Shed is a gorgeous 3-bedroom barn conversion set on the cusp of a pretty village in the Yorkshire Dales. Fabulous interiors include Farrow & Ball colours throughout, feature beds and a roaring open fire to curl up in front of. A wood-burning hot tub in the garden keeps everyone nice and toast outside too.
As the name suggests, this charming stone barn was once home to the local cattle on the estate. Subject to a recent refurbishment, it has been transformed into a stylish and elegant family holiday home.
Entering The Dairy Shed from the rear of the property you step into a spacious and dramatic sitting room. Accents of grey and purple give this room a luxurious and atmospheric appeal. Light up the fire and snuggle up on one of two large comfy sofas, the perfect place to relax after a busy day's sightseeing in Yorkshire. There's an LCD TV with DVD player in here, and Wi-Fi is included throughout. Books and board games are provided for some off-line family fun.
The kitchen sits next door and echoes the same stylish appeal. Chic stone-colour units gather around a dining table with quirky handmade barrel stools underneath. The cupboards are fully equipped with everything you'll need for your stay and a dishwasher, washer/dryer is included for your convenience.
There are 3 bedrooms in The Dairy Shed, each with their own unique feature beds and personality. The first bedroom is set on the ground floor. This generous room boasts a fabulous king size 4-poster bedstead and a wow-factor wet-room set into the corner of the room. The remaining bedrooms are both upstairs. Bedroom 2 features a king size French bed with exposed beams overhead. The final bedroom is a stunning room with exposed stone walls and a fabulous 4-poster bed. There is a further wet-room style bathroom up here with a walk-in shower & WC.
The Dairy Shed offers much to enjoy outside too. To the rear you have a charming enclosed courtyard with outdoor furniture, fairy lights and a BBQ ? the perfect location for those al fresco dinners in summer. This courtyard is also home to the log-burning hot tub which is exclusively for guests at The Dairy Shed. (Available throughout the year)
To the front of the barn is a large shared courtyard, another very pleasant and sheltered space to settle down with the papers. Beyond the gardens guests are more than welcome to walk around the estate and meet the local wildlife. The cross-country walk by the church and down to the village pub is highly recommended! For little ones there is also a play area just a few hundred yards from the barn.
Local Area
The Dairy Shed has a beautiful location set within a large estate on the cusp of the Yorkshire Dales. With less than an hour's drive to the coast and the City of York it's an ideal basecamp from which to strike out and discover these unique Yorkshire locations. Reeth and the stunning landscapes of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale are also within easy reach, and its well-placed for a day trip over the Lakes if you want to explore there too.
The property is set on the edge of a very pretty village. There's a great dining pub just a short walk away and if you're a bit of a foodie there are several more excellent dining pubs in the area including The Morritt Arms Hotel, the Black Bull at Moulton and the Shoulder of Mutton at Middleton Tyas. Mainsgill, an award winning Deli, tea-room and farm shop is also just minutes from the house. It's also the perfect location if you enjoy walking. There are lots of beautiful walks from the doorstep and in fact its well-known as a great starting point for walking - seasoned walkers come from miles around to set off from the village.
This stunning Yorkshire Cottage is just a few miles away from Richmond, an historic market town with much to offer the discerning holiday-maker. Explore the cobbled market square or head up towards Richmond Castle for a slice of Yorkshire history. Just a short drive through Richmond takes you into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales proper. Head up towards Reeth and on towards Hawes in Wensleydale for a true taste of this magnificent countryside. Stop at the Wensleydale Heiffer for lunch before heading back to the comfort of your cosy cottage.
North of the cottage is the charming town of Barnard Castle. Recently listed as one of the top 10 places to live in the UK, it's a pretty little place with a host of shops, cafes and pubs to explore. The excellent Bowes Museum is here and is well worth a visit. And as the name would suggest there's an historic castle to explore too.
Further south, you'll find the pretty market town of Northallerton where handsome Georgian houses line the long main street. The wonderful Betty's Tearooms is here as is a fantastic local deli, Lewis & Cooper's Food Emporium and of course the quintessentially Yorkshire department store of Barkers.
To take in the North York Moors head further south still and brave it up Sutton Bank, the view from the top said by some to be the finest in all of England. The gorgeous market town of Helmsley makes for the perfect pit-stop and if you feel like something special for lunch make your way to the Star Inn at Harome.
And if you feel like a spot of pampering, there's also a fantastic Spa just a few miles down the road.
