At over 230 years old, The Lodge LHB is a unique character cottage set in a stunning location in the Yorkshire Dales. Nestling high up into the hills of Nidderdale just outside Pateley Bridge, it offers a luxuriously peaceful holiday experience. A truly authentic taste of Yorkshire country life...
The layout of the cottage is suitably original, with corridors, secret doors and winding stairs leading off in all directions. Access to the cottage is via a pretty conservatory to the front of the building. At its heart is a welcoming and traditional kitchen kept warm by the Aga set into the fireplace. A beautiful and atmospheric dining room sits next door; with its wood burner, antiques and dramatic dark green walls it is a fabulous setting for a candlelit dinner. Access to a large twin and double bedroom is via stairs leading off from the dining room. There is also a shower room and WC accessed via these stairs.
Heading in the opposite direction from the kitchen leads you past the family bathroom complete with a cast iron claw foot bath. Further along the hallway takes you to the comfortable lounge; a beautiful and peaceful room dominated by the original stone fireplace and chimney, now home to an enormous wood burning stove. There are further stairs leading off this room taking you to the third and fourth bedrooms above (a double and a triple room). There is also a utility accessed via these stairs which has an additional WC. There is Wi-Fi available at the cottage and a landline for inbound and emergency use if required. It should be noted that people with reduced mobility may have difficulty with the steep nature of the stairs in The Lodge.
The grounds of the cottage include a gorgeous South-facing garden to the front complete with a babbling brook at its foot. As the cottage sits within a shooting estate the garden is often home to pheasant and partridge as well as other local wildlife. There is garden furniture and a BBQ available for guest's use in the warmer months.
Please note that although the property sleeps 9 a maximum of 8 adults is recommended.
The Lodge LHB has an amazing location. Approached via a long and quiet bridleway, it offers the peace and tranquillity of the Yorkshire Dales countryside, with the delights of Yorkshire village life just two miles away. With miles of stunning walks and mountain bike trails literally from the doorstep, the cottage is heaven for lovers of all things outdoors.
Heading behind the cottage takes you higher up into the Nidderdale moorlands with some magnificent cross-country walking. If you prefer a gentler stroll, making your way back along the bridle path also offers some fantastic panoramic views of Nidderdale and Pateley Bridge below.
Pateley Bridge itself is a charming little market town very typical of this area of Yorkshire. The Main Street is peppered with cafes, restaurants, local stores, quality butchers and a fantastic wine shop - everything you need to stock up for your stay. You'll also find the self-proclaimed 'Oldest Sweet Shop in England' here dating back to the early 1800s - little has changed inside since then.
Pateley Bridge sits at the heart of the breathtaking Nidderdale landscape, itself an AONB and immediately adjacent to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There are bags of local attractions and stunning natural sights within easy driving distance and with Harrogate less than half an hour away, there's lots of choice for day trips.
