Theaked Stones Cottage is an idyllic 3-bedroom country cottage set in a sleepy little village in Wensleydale. With classic interiors and stunning views across the Dale to Middleham Castle, it's the perfect option for families looking for a cosy base to explore the very best of the Yorkshire Dales.
The entrance to Theaked Stones Cottage has a real chocolate box feel to it. Step inside to discover a pretty little porch complete with flagstone floors and a welcome bench to rest those weary legs. Once you've kicked off your boots move on into a spacious traditional dining room. A chunky oak dining table seats 6 people comfortably and a sash window affords views out into the front gardens. Most of the antique furniture in this room and the rest of the house has been sourced from the renowned local auction house Tennants at Leyburn.
At the heart of the home is the cottage style kitchen, again boasting flagstone floors as well as chunky oak work-tops and shaker-style cream units. We love the range cooker which sits contentedly under an inglenook beamed chimney breast. And there's a breakfast bar for those bacon sandwiches each morning (or those glasses of bubbly each evening!). Double patio doors from this room lead out into an enclosed courtyard garden to the rear of the cottage, the perfect spot for a BBQ. There's also a handy downstairs cloakroom too.
Make your way back through the dining room and into the large and very comfortable lounge. Plenty of comfy sofas to sink into here, with an exposed brick wall giving the place a rustic look and a gas living flame fire keeping the whole room nice and toasty. There's an LCD TV & DVD player to keep you entertained as well as games and books for some off-line family fun.
All 3 bedrooms in this Yorkshire Cottage are upstairs. The first is beautiful room to the front of the house with breath-taking views across the rooftops and over Wensleydale, all the way to Middleham Castle. Featuring a king-size sleigh bed and with bags of space to relax in, you just won't want to get out of bed! The second bedroom is equally lovely with its cast iron king-size bed and bright airy feel. This room also boasts a large en suite shower room. The last of the bedrooms is a very sweet twin room, again a very generous room with those amazing views over Wensleydale. Upstairs is also home to the family bathroom complete with a bath for those long hot soaks and a shower overhead.
Outside the front of the cottage there is a lovely South-facing cottage-style garden which erupts with colour every spring right through to the Autumn. In the warmer months enjoy lunch al fresco on the bistro table set or perch on the sheltered wooden bench for your morning coffee. It's a lovely spot at any time of day with two separate seating areas designed to capture the best of the sun in the morning and later on that evening.
This property requires a payment of a £200 security deposit.
Theaked Stones Cottage is set in a sleepy little village in Wensleydale, just off the road into the market town of Leyburn. It's central location makes it the perfect base from which to explore this area of the Dales. The village itself has a local pub, a stone's throw away, and a secret waterfall to discover just a few minutes' walk from the cottage.
Nearby you'll find the charming market town of Leyburn, which is within a 10 minute walk. Leyburn is an archetypical slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to Tennants, the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond is similar in many ways, and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.
Middleham, one of Yorkshire's loveliest villages is just a few miles away. Famous for its castle (once home to Richard III) it's also home to several race-horse trainers; you will see and hear the horses being lead through the village up to the gallops every day. And to top it off there is a lovely collection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. We love it so much it features in our Top 10 Prettiest Yorkshire Villages. Just a few miles out of the village is the fantastic attraction The Forbidden Corner. Regularly voted the best family attraction in Yorkshire, it's also well worth a look even if there are no children in your party.
If walking is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise. And there are plenty of options for cycling too in Tour De France country. You can strike out literally from the doorstep and there are several walking guides available in the cottage for you to use.
There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of Theaked Stones Cottage. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are just a few miles away and the gorgeous villages of West Burton and Askrigg are within easy driving distance, so lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about.
And when you need to refuel stop at one of the areas many excellent gastro pubs. As well as the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton there's the Blue Lion at East Witton, The Sandpiper Inn at Leyburn and many more, all within a short drive of the cottage.
