Property code: G0174

This handsome three-bedroom farmhouse which has been transformed into an elegant and luxurious holiday cottage, just happens to be set within one of the prettiest spots in the North York Moors.

The honey-coloured stone of the cottage is very typical of this area of the moors and lends itself beautifully to the lush greens and purples of the moorland all around. Step inside to discover a stylish refurbishment which has retained all of the property's inherent character. Throughout you'll find original features like the fantastic cast-iron fireplace in the kitchen and stone trough in the downstairs bathroom. Throw in 21st-century luxuries like underfloor heating and you might just have yourself the perfect luxury Yorkshire cottage.

Downstairs you'll find the kitchen and dining area, a bright and spacious room which blends the contemporary and traditional perfectly. The kitchen is fully stocked and includes everything you would expect of a cottage at this standard. There is a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and children's crockery/cutlery too.

The classically-styled sitting room is next door to the kitchen. Light up the wood burner, pour yourself a glass of wine and settle down on the cosy tartan armchair with a good book. Or stretch out on the sofa and watch a movie. There are lots of extras to keep you entertained including the large LCD TV and Wi-Fi.

Downstairs houses a handy utility room, perfect for drying off your walking/cycling gear or stripping down muddy kids. There also a large family bathroom with a feature roll-top bath, a lovely way to end a busy day's sightseeing, and a separate walk-in shower.

Head upstairs to the generous sized bedrooms, one king-size, one double and a twin room with single beds. All of the bedrooms are dressed in the finest cotton bed linen and boast warm wooden floors, LCD TVs and stylish faux-fur throws. There is another family bathroom up here, again with a bath and separate walk-in shower. Complimentary toiletries are provided for your convenience.

Outside the cottage you'll find a large lawned garden and stone patio. Garden furniture is provided so you can enjoy lunch alfresco in the warmer months. The cottage is set in a very quiet hamlet so all around you are the sights and sounds of the North York Moors. Just heavenly.

The cottage is set in a pretty little hamlet (complete with a local pub) in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. This particular dale is famed for its daffodil walk when each spring the river banks come alive with the yellow flowers, said to be planted originally by the monks who settled on this land many hundreds of years ago.

Lesser known than its Yorkshire cousin the Dales, the North York Moors are literally on your doorstep. This glorious expanse of heather-clad countryside is simply stunning, and it's well worth taking some time to explore it properly. The moors cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the dales you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the moors. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it’s cast in comforting soft focus.

This is serious walking country, so if you enjoy donning the old walking boots and striking out into the countryside this cottage has the perfect location. No need to get in the car at all, there are some truly breath-taking walking trails from the door. And of course the same is true for cycling. There are also countless picture-card villages to explore within a few miles including the chocolate-box Hutton-le-Hole (6 miles).

Close by you also have the fantastic town of Helmsley (15 miles). At the heart of the town square is a statue of Lord Feversham, a distant ancestor of the current Lord who resides in Duncombe Park. This stunning baroque mansion sits on the outskirts of town and is a good choice for an afternoon's sightseeing. If you want to indulge some more architectural desires, the equally grand Nunnington Hall fifteen miles away is another grand abode worth a peek.

Helmsley is a foodie’s heaven, packed with exquisite tea rooms, cafes and on the pulse organic delis. It's also surrounded by some of the best gastro pubs in the UK. Tucked alongside these culinary delights are lots of unique shops, galleries and antique dealers, just the spot to build up an appetite for lunch.

The neighbouring town of Pickering (18 miles) is similar in many ways and is host to its own delightful set of shops, cafes and restaurants. A few miles further on takes you to Thornton-Le-Dale (18 miles), a very pretty North York Moors village with thatched houses and a sleepy little brook. Stop for some ice cream here and remind yourself what life in the slow lane feels like.

We had a brilliant stay and couldn't recommend this cottage enough. It was spotless, well furnished and in a lovely spot in the middle of the moores. We would come back in a heartbeat.

Loved our stay. The cottage is beautiful and well equipped. Nice extras such as bread, milk, some condiments, and washing up bits, which are often missing when self-catering. The location is beautiful, very quiet. Lovely walks and easy to access wider North Yorkshire attractions. We frequented the pub which is very handy and the new shop is lovely.Read more Had a fantastic stay. Hide

Stunning location in beautiful Farndale! Approx 10 paces to good village pub that serves decent pub grub. Nice garden with lots of birds + bunnies! Cottage is modern inside with decent kitchen + large bathrooms. Sitting room a disappointment, not a very welcoming or comfortable place to return to at the end of each day.
