How to do Sundays – Yorkshire style!

Who doesn’t love a Sunday – it’s the perfect day for relaxing and making time for your family, not to mention pigging out on a massive Sunday lunch!

However it can get easy to get stuck in a rut with how you spend this precious day so here is a suggestion for a great way to spend a Sunday at the Yorkshire Arboretum followed by Sunday Lunch at the Star Inn.

Let your kids run wild in acres of space

Yorkshire Arboretum

Located in the grounds of Castle Howard, The Yorkshire Arboretum covers a whopping 120 acres so there is plenty of space for children to run around and explore. They can have lots of run hiding amongst the trees and playing with the colourful leaves that cover the ground during Autumn.

Explore the Arboretum with a variety of trails

Yorkshire Arboretum

The Arboretum includes more than 6000 trees from around the world and you can pick up a tree trail map to discover the different varieties within the grounds.

Options available for children include Leaf Bingo to test their observational skills and a Minibeast Discovery Trail to help them discovery ladybirds, bees and butterflies.

For something a little bit different try the Furniture Makers walk which shows the different trees that can be made into pieces of furniture.

Enjoy the woodland playground (and a drink afterwards)

Yorkshire Arboretum

The kids loved the playground which is styled like a mini assault course with various tree trunks (created from the Arboretum’s own trees) to clamber over, crawl under or balance on. There is also an excellent on-site café where you can recover with a drink after all that exertion.

Enjoy a delicious Sunday Lunch at the Star Inn

The Star Inn, Harome

After working up an appetite at the Arboretum we headed to the acclaimed Star Inn at Harome. It has a Michelin Star and is about a 20-minute drive from Castle Howard. The food certainly didn’t disappoint and enjoying a delicious Sunday lunch by a roaring fire was the perfect finish to a wonderful Sunday afternoon.
