We’re getting more and more excited about the Tour de France Grand Depart in Yorkshire this summer. I’m even considering dusting off my Lycra and getting out on the old bike. Still a bit too cold for me though…
But…if and when I decide to go for it, I’ll be spoilt for choice in terms of cycling routes here in Yorkshire. There are some amazing routes in the North York Moors, my home turf, and many many more from the Coast to the Dales.

1. The Lodge LHB – Yorkshire Dales
The 4-bedroom Lodge LHB holiday cottage is set in rural Nidderdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are some great off-road rides from the door, or you can follow the roads for a less bumpy, but equally beautiful ride.
2. Clitherow Cottage – Yorkshire Wolds
Set in a peaceful little village in the Yorkshire Wolds, Clitherow Cottage is a stunning 3-bedroom holiday cottage just perfect for cycling holidays to Yorkshire. If you’re up for a challenge, head for the Buttertubs Pass… The mountainous and breath-taking route down towards Wensleydale. 4. The Stables
This time we’re over in the North York Moors – another classic location for cycling holidays to Yorkshire. The Stables is a 2-bedroom luxury cottage set near the pretty village of Hovingham, just a few miles from Castle Howard. The long straight road down to Castle Howard is a joy to ride, and when you want something more testing you can head in the opposite direction towards moorland around Blakey Ridge. Save your legs for the challenging climb up Chimney Bank in Rosedale – one of the toughest in Yorkshire. The Stables also has a hot-tub and a sauna for you to rest those aching muscles in later.
5. The Granary
Just 10 miles North of York, The Granary holiday cottage is set in gentle countryside on the cusp of the North York Moors. The roads around here are suitable for less extreme cycling, but are a pleasure to ride nonetheless. And you always have the option of heading up into the moors from here if you want more. There is a luxurious downstairs wet-room to cool off in on your return, and a sauna to chill in later too.
6. Easthorpe Lodge
Another of our luxury cottages near Castle Howard, Easthorpe Lodge has plenty of lockable storage space for bikes. If you’re unfamiliar with the location, the owner has provided lots of suggested cycle routes for you to try, to cover everything from the novice rider to the more experienced biker.
A great choice for a group of cycling enthusiasts looking to holiday in Yorkshire together. Eden is one of our large luxury cottages in the Yorkshire Dales. Perfect location if you want to just hop on your bike and go. The subject of many of David Hockney’s landscape paintings, come and discover just how pretty the Yorkshire Wolds are. Burdale Barn is also within striking distance of the coast if you want to go a little further.
9. Clock Farm House
Another super option if you’re planning cycling holiday to Yorkshire with friends. Clock Farm House is a grand and luxurious 5-bedroom holiday cottage near York. You have the choice of both the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds to choose from. And when you want a change from cycling head into the stunning city of York for the day.
10. Thief Hole Barn
This 4-bedroom luxury cottage is perfectly pitched between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors in what is known as Herriot Country. All around Thief Hole Barn the landscape is perfect for cycling, with largely flat routes and beautiful countryside. Just a few more miles in either direction will take you up into more challenging landscapes, if you feel that way inclined…
