What’s happening in Yorkshire in 2019!

With 2019 now firmly on the horizon, we look forward to some of the events taking place in Yorkshire next year. There’s lots happening in Yorkshire in 2019 from a World Cycling championship to the anniversary of a famous walking route.

Here are some of our favourite 2019 events:

The UCI Road World Championships come to Yorkshire

The UCI Road World Championships will be coming to Yorkshire in September 2019 for an exciting week of top class cycling.

Things to do in Swaledale

Harrogate will be the hub for the event. Races will also travel through Wensleydale, Swaledale, Ripon and Nidderdale and there should be fabulous atmosphere along the routes.

See the stars in the Dark Skies Festival

Stargazing in the North Yorkshire Moors

The Dark Skies Festival takes place throughout the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors from from 15th February to 9th March 2019. It’s the perfect chance to try stargazing (whether you are a beginner or an expert) in some of the darkest skies around. There are lots of individual events taking place during the festival including photography workshops, expert talks and even a Go Ape Night zip.

The Cleveland Way tuns 50

Enjoy a coastal walk in the North York Moors

The Cleveland Way is one of seven National Trails in England and from start to finish is 109 miles in total. Starting at the market town in Helmsley it travels through the North York Moors and down the beautiful Yorkshire coast. There’s lots to see and do along the route and 2019 is the perfect time to tackle it. The Cleveland Way turns 50 in 2019.

Coastival celebrates its 10th birthday

Coastival in Scarborough takes place each February

Head to Scarborough from the 22nd – 24th February and you’ll find an array of open studios, performances and workshops. Coastival celebrates everything from music to art in the lovely coastal setting of Scarborough.

It’s the fifth annual Tour de Yorkshire

After hosting the Tour de France in 2014, Yorkshire launched it’s own road race the very next year. The Tour de Yorkshire is now a firmly established cycling event and this year will be the fifth edition of the race. Full details are still to be confirmed but we do know the host towns will include Scarborough, Leeds, Bedale and Barnsley.

Yorkshire celebrates the best of art and culture

Yorkshire will once again celebrate art and culture in 2019 and events will include Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage, the Grassington Festival, North Yorkshire Open Studios and the Nidd Art Trail. In the Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage many of the villages traditional fisherman’s cottages are turned into miniature arts galleries for the weekend!


There’s a feast of food festivals

Discover Malton, a famous foodie market town just a few miles away.

There’s plenty going on in Yorkshire to keep foodies happy during 2019. Food events include the Malton Food Lovers Festival in May, the Yorkshire Dales Food and Drink Festival in July and York Food and Drink Festival in September. The perfect opportunities to taste some of Yorkshire’s finest local artisan food.

Castle Howard welcomes Countryfile Live

Countryfile Live comes to North Yorkshire for the first time in 2019. The 4-day event at Castle Howard will include a Village Green, the Countryfile Experience which features the programmes presenters and a celebration of the best of the Yorkshire countryside.

Music lovers will find festivals aplenty taking place in Yorkshire during 2019. Deershed is a great choice for families while jazz lovers should head to Burton Agnes Hall from the 12th – 14th July.

Burton Agnes Festival

Paul Weller and Jess Glynne are both coming to Dalby Forest in June and Scarborough Open Air theatre will welcome an array of stars in their summer sessions.
