Castle Howard Food Festival – 5th – 7th October
This Fantastic Food Festival can be found in the grounds of the majestic Castle Howard with talks and tastings galore. Entrance is included as part of the standard admission making it the perfect Yorkshire day out.
Fountains by Floodlight at Fountains Abbey, Saturdays in October
See the spectacular ruins of Fountains Abbey lit up against the Autumn night sky. The National Trust site will be illuminated each Saturday night where you can enjoy an Evening tour and listen to a live choir performance.
Beverley Food Festival – 7th October
You’ll find around 130 stalls selling the finest food and drink from local artisan suppliers. You’ll find everything from cheese to jam to beer.
Railway in Wartime, 12th – 14th October
Be transported back in time with a trip on an NYMR steam train! This 3-day festival has World War II themed entertainment, vintage vehicle displays and more.
Harrogate International Literary Festival, 18th – 21st October
One of the UK’s finest literary festivals takes place each October at The Crown Hotel in Harrogate. This year’s line-up of authors includes David Starkey, Amanda Prowse, Nick Hewer and Dr Jane Hawkings.
Harrogate Comedy Festival, 3rd – 20th October
It’s the 10th birthday of the Harrogate Comedy Festival and it will be bigger and better than ever with comedians including Ross Noble, Sarah Millican and Jason Byrne performing shows. There’s a hunt for Comedian of the Year, offers at local bars for ticket holders and even special comedy events for kids.
Musicport, 19th – 21st October
The Whitby Music Festival is now in its 19th year and is a chance to enjoy some fabulous music from many different genres in the Whitby Pavillion.
Nidderdale Food and Drink Festival – 27th October
This one day food and drink festival takes place in Memorial Hall, Pateley Bridge and is a chance to discover some of the great local produce that Yorkshire has to offer. The event will be opened by Frances Atkin of The Yorke Arms and also features celebrity guest Clare Balding.
Countryside Live – 20th and 21st October
Taking place at the Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate this is a family-friendly celebration of all things country. On the Saturday you can meet Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen and on the Sunday the special guest will be The Yorkshire Vet, Peter Wright.
Expect lots of animals, dog displays and opportunities for shopping
Aysgarth Falls Enchanted Woods Halloween Trail, 20th October – 4th November
Take part in a spooky scavenger hunt to find the Witches of Freeholder’s Woods broomsticks. There have been stolen by some naughty sprites and children can help find them on an enchanted trail.
The Great York Ghost Hunt, 26th October – 2nd November
There have been some ghost lamps hidden around the great city of York – just in time for Halloween. Take a trip round this spooky historic city and see how many you can find! It’s recommended to try this between 5pm and 7pm when the Ghost Hunt conditions are just right!
Hallowscream at York Maze, 27th October – 3rd November
York Maze turns terrifying for Halloween. Hallowscream includes five haunted house attractions with plenty of scares and screams along the way. Definitely not one for the faint hearted.
Mother Shipton’s Enchanted Forest, 27th October – 4th November
Visit Yorkshire’s famous petrifying wall during the week of Halloween and you’ll find the place transformed into an enchanted forest. There’s an adventure trail and a costume competition every day at 2pm.
