Ard Rock Enduro Festival, 3rd – 5th August
This annual mountain bike festival takes place around Reeth in Swaledale with cyclists tackling the beautiful and challenging in the Yorkshire Dales. There’s also trade stands, music and refreshments.
St Wilfrid’s Day in Ripon, 4th August
A procession around the city of Ripon to honour St Wilfrid. The procession of floats is led by the saint on his horse and there are fairground rides in the market square.
International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival, 4th – 20th August
This annual festival features 40 full-scale productions of Gilbert & Sullivan’s classic musicals in Harrogate’s Royal Hall.
Thornton-le-Dale Show, 8th August
This traditional Yorkshire agricultural show takes place in the pretty village of Thornton-le-Dale. Activities include a dog show, a craft marquee and show-jumping with a fancy dress competition for children.
Staithes RNLI Lifeboat Weekend – 10th – 12th August
A fun family-friendly weekend on the Yorkshire coast that helps to raise much-needed funds for the RNLI in Staithes and Runswick Bay.
Whitby Regatta – 10th – 13th August
An annual event in Whitby, the regatta includes yacht racing, rowing, a raft of free entertainment and a spectacular firework display.
Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival – 12th August
Come and view an array of scarecrows in the pretty Yorkshire Dales villages of Kettlewell. There’s trail sheets to follow with versions for kids and adults.
Ripley Show – 12th August
Taking place in Ripley Castle Park, the Ripley Show is a great family day out with entertainment including the Jez Avery Stunt Show, a Sheep Show and the Summerbridge and Dacre Band.
Scarborough Open Air Theatre – Various
Acts playing this month at Scarborough Open Air Theatre include Texas (11th August), Britney Spears (17th August) and James (18th August). Find out more.
TribFest – 16th – 19th August

Castle Howard Proms – 18th August
This classical concert in the grounds of Castle Howard will feature the London Gala Orchestra and a performance by Lesley Garrett CBE. Picnics are welcomed and the night will finish with a firework display! Find out more.
Whitby Folk Week – 18th -24th August
The fabulous Whitby Folk Week includes 300 concerts in more than 50 venues around Whitby. There’s also ceilidhs, workshops and storytelling to keep everyone entertained. Find out more.
Nidd Art Trail – 18th – 28th August
The fabulous Nidd Art Trail takes place around Nidderdale and Pateley Bridge and involves painters, sculpters, jewellery makers and more. Locations include the King Street Workshops in Pateley Bridge.
Wensleydale Show – 25th August
One of the biggest of the Yorkshire agricultural shows is the Wensleydale show which takes place in Leyburn each year. There’s ring displays, trade stands and the Leyburn Brass Band. Find out more.
West Witton Feast – 25th – 27th August
The pretty Wensleydale village of West Witton will host their annual ‘feast’ over August Bank Holiday with a Fell Race, Fun Day and Quoits Knockout. It’s a great excuse to visit this picturesque spot!
