There’s so much happening in Yorkshire this month. From a flower festival to a 1940’s weekend, take a look at these Yorkshire Events taking place in September 2018!

Heritage Open Days, 6th – 9th and 13th – 16th September

Nunnington Hall

For two weekends in September, Heritage sites across Yorkshire (and the rest of the UK) will throw open their doors to the public for free. Places to visit this year include Rievaulx Abbey, the Ryedale Folk Museum, Treasurer’s House York, Nunnington Hall and Fountain’s Abbey. Find out more about Heritage Open Days.

Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage, 8th and 9th September

Six walks on the Yorkshire Coast

The traditional fisherman’s village of Staithes is transformed into an art gallery for the weekend. Villagers will open up their cottages to the public and display an array of artwork from local and visiting artists. Find out more about the Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage.

The Yorkshire Wolds Walking & Outdoors Festival, 8th – 16th September

Now in its 8th year, this annual festival is a great to explore this glorious part of Yorkshire. Expert guides are available along the Yorkshire Wolds Way and other activities include Spurn Safari’s and Seabird Cruises. Find out more.

Guisborough Forest Festival, 9th September

Guisborough Forest (at the Northern cusp of the North York Moors) includes orienteering, a sculpture trail and fabulous viewpoints like Highcliff Nab and Hanging Stone. Once a year the Guisborough Forest Festival includes live music, craft demonstrations and children’s entertainment – a great time to visit.

Grassington 1940s Weekend, 14th – 16th September

The lovely Yorkshire Dales village of Grassington heads back to the 1940s for this fabulous weekend. Expect dancing, singing, vintage clothes and 1940’s style outfits on display.

Harrogate Autumn Flower Festival, 14th – 16th September

What's on Yorkshire - Autum

Taking place across 3 days in September, the Harrogate Flower Festival is the premier Autumn garden festival in the UK. You can take inspiration from some beautiful flower displays, meet a selection of specialist gardening groups, and watch some top cookery displays. There’s a giant vegetable competition and the ‘Plants of Pleasure’ exhibition.

Yorkshire Cheese Festival, 15th – 23rd September

This is the second annual celebration of all things cheese (and other local produce) in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Kicking off with a two-day event at the Wensleydale Creamery, there are also cheese tastings, cheese menus and guided walks.

York Food Festival, 21st to 30th September

This celebration of all things food and drink takes place in York on the last two weekends in September. There are demonstrations from chefs including Tommy Banks and Andrew Pern plus an array of local food and drink producers. Find out more about the York Food Festival.

Stokesley Show, 22nd September

The annual Stokesley Show is one of the biggest and best agricultural fairs taking place in the North York Moors. There’s a fun fair in Stokesley High Street and the show itself includes a Craft Marquee, lots of stalls and demonstrations by the 3 Sixty Bicycle Stunt Team amongst others.

Gorgeous Cottages will be attending the Stokesley Show in the Welcome to Yorkshire tent – come and say hello!

Nidderdale Show, 24th September

The Nidderdale Show takes place each year in the very pretty setting of Bewerley Park in Pateley Bridge. There’s an Open Dog show, lots of sheep (and other farm animals) and displays including a stunt motorbike show.

Illuminating Rievaulx, 28th – 30th September

See the beautiful Rievaulx Abbey lit up in coloured light. This promises to be a magical experience and visitor’s can view the historic abbey as never before. There will be a fire pit if you fancy toasting a marshmallow and a free shuttle bus is available from Helmsley Castle Car Park.

Scarborough Jazz Festival, 28th – 30th September

You’ll find big bands, orchestras, quartets and solo singers amongst the performers at the Scarborough Jazz Festival. Much of the action takes place in Scarborough Spa’s Grand Hall and there are lots of fringe events to enjoy too.

NYMR Railway – Autumn Steam Gala, 28th – 30th September

This year’s NYMR steam gala will celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the RAF as well as the 100 year birthday of the railway’s Q6 locomotive. You’ll find celebrations at the various stations including a Beer Festival at Levisham and Goathland.

Masham Sheep Fair, 29th – 30th September

Masham Market Square celebrates its past as a hub for sheep sales in this annual celebration of all things sheep. As well as a sheep show there is sheep racing, sheepdog demonstrations and a wool competition. There’s bell ringers, morris dancers and tours of the town’s two breweries.
