Welcome to our monthly round-up of the hottest events and happenings across Yorkshire.

This is a particularly exciting year for Yorkshire of course with the Grand Depart of the Tour De France on its way in July, and leading up to that the vibrant 100 Day Cultural Festival with events across the county.

So what’s worth coming to see this April?  Here’s our pick of what’s on in Yorkshire this month…

What’s on in Yorkshire – April 2014

From thought provoking plays to festivals all about chocolate, there are lots of fantastic events in Yorkshire this April…

A Taste of Honey | 27th Mar to 24th May | Various locations

Taste of Honey

One of the headline events of the 100 Day Cultural Festival, this taboo-breaking play is said to be one of the most influential pieces of theatre of its era.  It’s hard-nosed stuff, but an engaging and fresh drama well worth seeing.  Further info: http://festival.yorkshire.com/events/a-taste-of-honey

The Woolly Bike Trail Workshops | Dates throughout April | Various locations

Woolly Bike Trail - Yorkshire Cultural Festival

Another headline event of the Cultural Festival, the woolly bike trail is exactly what is implies.  Street artist Cassandra Kilbride will be leading workshops to create woolly bikes for a yearlong trail across Yorkshire.  Most of the wool is, of course, from Yorkshire sheep.  Further info: http://festival.yorkshire.com/events/the-woolly-bike-trail

Art and Yorkshire: From Turner to Hockney | 12th April – 12th Oct | Mercer Gallery Harrogate

Art and Yorkshire - From Turner to Hockney

A rare opportunity to view the work of Yorkshire’s most celebrated artists.  Worth the trip alone to see work from Hockney which is not usually in the public view.  A fascinating and well put together exhibition placing past masters and contemporary artists on the same stage.  Further info: http://festival.yorkshire.com/events/art-and-yorkshire-from-turner-to-hockney

York Chocolate Festival | 18th – 21st April | York

York Chocolate Festival

York is, amongst other things, the spiritual home of British Chocolate.  The Nestle Factory on the outskirts of the city still produces up to 6 millon Kit-Kats per day!  No wonder the city even smells like chocolate.  Head over to York for the festival celebrating this fact, and expect to go up a few dress sizes while you’re there.  Further info: http://www.yorkchocolatefestival.co.uk/

Bradford International Film Festival | Up to 6th April | National Media Museum Bradford

Bradford International Film Festival 2014

This internationally renowned Yorkshire Festival has been running for almost 20 years and has become one of the UK’s most critically influential celebrations of cinema.  The 2014 program sees the usual mix of fascinating independent films from around the globe.  Further info: http://www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/bradfordinternationalfilmfestival
