Where do Travel Writers go on holiday?

Lovely Cottage - SwaledaleHave you ever wondered where travel writers go on holiday?  Well, for Yorkshire-based writers, Angie and Richard Aspinall from Aspinall Ink, the answer’s easy: they stay in one of our Luxury Yorkshire Cottages  They have a particular soft spot for Kisdon View and Lovely Cottage– two of our stunning Luxury Cottages in Swaledale…

Kisdon View and Lovely Cottage are owned by Chris and Suzanne Mitchell, a hugely friendly couple who clearly love to share their own little piece of Yorkshire Paradise.  They also have another holiday cottage, ‘Bramble Bottom’ in the nearby village of Muker, which is currently under development and will be completed in time for some lucky guests to see Le Tour whizz past in 2014.  So what is it about our cottages in Swaledale which appeal so much to these seasoned travel professionals?

What’s so special about our Cottages in Swaledale?

“It’s the view that makes us want to go back time and time again,” says Angie Aspinall, who writes for a range of travel websites including A Luxury Travel Blog.  “Swaledale just rolls out in front of you like a red carpet, welcoming you to a VIP event and the night skies are simply stunning as there’s very little light pollution.  Star-gazing from the hot tub is a magical experience – especially on a snowy winter’s evening but, it’s great at any time of year!”

She’s not wrong: the view of Swaledale from the cottages is unsurpassed.  The window in Kisdon View, acts like a picture frame, giving visitors the perfect viewpoint from both bedroom and lounge, whilst Lovely Cottage offers guests a private balcony from which to enjoy the scenery.

So, why is this the perfect writers’ retreat?

Angie explains, “It is so peaceful at Swaledale House and it provides us with such a different lifestyle to our hectic, urban life at home. The sense of space all around you really helps you to clear your head and you can focus on writing so much more easily but, when we want to take a break from work, we enjoy the great walks which start right from your door.  It’s so nice to be able to leave the car behind and just ‘walk’.

We can take advantage of the local visitor attractions such as having afternoon tea at Ravenseat Farm (as seen on ITV’s The Dales) and visit lovely villages such as Reeth and Muker or, if we’re staying in Lovely Cottage, we can just curl up in front of the stove with a couple of books .  We like it so much, I’ve already booked our next trip for Richard’s birthday in 2014!”

Richard goes on to say, “We escape to Swaledale with Gorgeous Cottages as often as we can.  Chris and Suzanne are such lovely hosts and we enjoy catching up with them while our dog, Tilly, enjoys letting off steam in their magnificent private meadow.”

[Both Kisdon View and Lovely Cottage are pet-friendly and offer a fantastic location to take your dog on holiday.  Acres of walking on your doorstep and dog-friendly pubs within easy reach.  Take a look at all of our Luxury Pet-friendly Cottages in Yorkshire here.]

Travelling for pleasure…

Angie finishes by musing, “Sometimes, travel is for work and sometimes it’s for pleasure.  If we’re lucky, the ‘work’ trips can also be a pleasure; like the first time we visited Kisdon View and Lovely Cottage.  We’ve discovered a real gem of a place and it’s somewhere we’ll always want to revisit.”
