About Egton Cottage

Looking out onto a beautiful moors village, Egton Cottage is a gorgeous stone built cottage housing accommodation over three floors. With its country-chic interiors, picture-postcard location and views of the North York Moors beyond the garden fence, it’s an idyllic country retreat for couples and young families alike.

The interior of Egton Cottage is classic country, with all of the contemporary comforts thrown in. The character of the building has been preserved with exposed stonework, ceiling beams and aged timber /stone floors featured throughout.

Downstairs in this North York Moors cottage you'll find a cosy lounge with a wood burning stove and a stunning farmhouse kitchen complete with Belfast sink, butcher's block, and flagstone flooring. Patio doors lead out to the garden giving the kitchen a sense of space and light. It also allows you to enjoy the views of the North York Moors over breakfast at your kitchen table.

There is a central hallway in the cottage with winding stairs leading up to the family bathroom and bedrooms above. There is also a convenient Cloakroom down here. Parents should note there is a section of open staircase from the hallway up to the first floor, so can we please ask to take extra care with children

The family bathroom has a lovely roll-top bath, perfect to sink into each evening and there is a separate stand-in shower. It has a bright, fresh look – just what you want in a country cottage bathroom.

The first of the bedrooms is a very sweet twin room with a white and blue theme. There is also ample room in here for a travel cot and this can be supplied if required. The master bedroom occupies the top floor. A lovely cosy room with seagrass flooring, a huge antique iron bed, luxury bed linin and exposed brickwork… A gorgeous room to retreat to after a busy day exploring.

To the rear of this luxury cottage there is a pretty patio area and lawned garden, a lovely spot for al fresco dining in the summer months. And plenty of room for little ones to run around in too.

Local Area

Egton Cottage is situated, in our opinion, in one of the prettiest villages in the North York Moors.

The village boasts several pubs, one of which is a fabulous gastro pub, locally renowned for its excellent menu. There are several more fantastic restaurants and gastro pubs within a few minutes drive.

Egton village is famous for the annual gooseberry show every August, thought to be the oldest of its kind in England.

This area of the Moors is particularly blessed with countless pretty towns and villages within easy driving distance, with the added advantage of having the Yorkshire Coast and Whitby within a few miles.

Local attractions include the steam trains of the North York Moors Railway at Grosmont, the stunning beaches at Sandsend and Whitby and the amazing moors landscape all around.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again. We enjoyed the location in Egton it was quiet and had the excellent Wheatsheaf right across the road. Although there was limited walking directly from the cottage there were lots of great walks just a short drive away. There is no shop in the village so planning necessary but Whitby is only a short drive. The Moors, the sea, the railway are also easily accessible with a short drive. Gromont is not a long walk though better to go to Egton Bridge and take the track rather than walk the narrow road to Gromont, bit longer but safer. The cottage, although cold when we arrived, heated up quickly and was comfortably warm at times rather too warm. We had great weather and the thermostats on the electric radiators downstairs didn't seem to cut out but we just switched them off. The towel rail in the bathroom pumps out lots of heat. The West facing garden was a delight, full of sun in the afternoon and evening and we sat out quite a bit. Lots of birds with voracious appetites, we bought two bags of seed but were rewarded with a constant stream of birds including woodpeckers and unfortunately a sparrow hawk who grabbed her tea and ate it at the end of the garden. Few minor negatives, the settee is a bit uncomfortable, the double bed a little firm and the bathroom window was hard to open to allow it to air. For some parking on the road and walking across the grass to avoid upsetting the neighbours might be a negative though didn't bother us, we spoke to them. These were minor and overall a wonderful stay.

Lovely cottage in an excellent location. It would have been nice to have been told that there was building work next door at the time of booking. We were blessed with some gorgeous weather for March however it was not possible to sit outside during the week due to the digging next door.
