- We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again. We enjoyed the location in Egton it was quiet and had the excellent Wheatsheaf right across the road. Although there was limited walking directly from the cottage there were lots of great walks just a short drive away. There is no shop in the village so planning necessary but Whitby is only a short drive. The Moors, the sea, the railway are also easily accessible with a short drive. Gromont is not a long walk though better to go to Egton Bridge and take the track rather than walk the narrow road to Gromont, bit longer but safer. The cottage, although cold when we arrived, heated up quickly and was comfortably warm at times rather too warm. We had great weather and the thermostats on the electric radiators downstairs didn't seem to cut out but we just switched them off. The towel rail in the bathroom pumps out lots of heat. The West facing garden was a delight, full of sun in the afternoon and evening and we sat out quite a bit. Lots of birds with voracious appetites, we bought two bags of seed but were rewarded with a constant stream of birds including woodpeckers and unfortunately a sparrow hawk who grabbed her tea and ate it at the end of the garden. Few minor negatives, the settee is a bit uncomfortable, the double bed a little firm and the bathroom window was hard to open to allow it to air. For some parking on the road and walking across the grass to avoid upsetting the neighbours might be a negative though didn't bother us, we spoke to them. These were minor and overall a wonderful stay.
