About The Stables

The Stables is a beautiful barn conversion situated just outside a pretty village in the North York Moors. With an out-door hot-tub, pretty courtyard garden and an impressive leisure suite included, it's a fabulous holiday cottage for those looking for something extra. And there is a heavenly country pub within walking distance...

The charm of the old farm buildings have been preserved perfectly with the use of exposed wooden beams and brickwork, however the interior has a classic contemporary finish. There are 2 large double bedrooms, one with a large en-suite bathroom and the second with access to a wet-room.

The cottage also features a lovely farmhouse kitchen and a very comfortable lounge / dining area complete with wood burning stove. Flagstone flooring (with underfloor heating) lends a stylish touch.

The south facing courtyard and gardens feature a hot tub, patio and barbecue area, perfect for al fresco frolics in the warmer months. In the winter months the wood burning stove and comfy sofas make for the perfect snug hideaway.

The cottage also has access to some fantastic leisure facilities including its own private hot-tub. There's also a mini-gym, treatment room, sauna and relaxation area. You'll also find a fully stocked games room with table tennis, pool and table football.

Local Area

The cottage is set in the rolling Howardian Hills in the western reaches of the North York Moors. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1987, the lush pastures and woodlands of the western Moors play host to grand country houses, atmospheric ruins and handsome market towns. The very pretty village of Hovingham is just a few minutes’ drive and features several pubs, a tea-rooms and local store.

The beautiful market town of Helmsley is also close by and is well worth a visit. If you fancy a little pampering you’ll find a fantastic day Spa here; the Verbena Spa. Perfect for a little me time indulgence!

You’re also close to Castle Howard, York and the North Yorkshire coast, so lots of choice for day trips.

And if you're looking for the perfect country pub, the gorgeous Grapes at Slingsby is a very pleasant stroll along a bridleway - the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Lovely cottage with great facilities however could do with a freshen up in many areas and then it would be just perfect - sadly wet weather slightly tainted our week away

Really lovely cottage - we thoroughly enjoyed staying here. Wish we'd remembered about the gym as that would have been fab. Enjoyed the hot tub and games room. Beds soft but comfy. Little welcome hamper was great - enough to get us going for a breakfast that's for sure. Secure garden made it fine to let the dogs out but we needed to keep a watchful eye for pick up duty. Walked from cottage to Grapes in Slingsby - a really busy pub with straightforward pub grub - was fine but not fantastic. Other pubs we tried - Crown & Cushion where food was actually pretty good but the atmosphere lacking. Also the Royal Oak which was quiet and friendly with pretty good food - my daughter rated their sticky toffee pudding as the best ever!

Only thing that would have improved our stay was a walks book - other cottages we've stayed in have had helpful folders setting out walks from the house and nearby. When one is totally unfamiliar with an area, this assistance would be invaluable.

We went to Castle Howard which was really interesting - luckily we could take turns to go into the house/look after dogs. Yorkshire Arboretum was ok but nothing like the standard of Westonbirt. Quite expensive for a dog walk! Cafe had lovely food but slow service.
