About The Lake House

Welcome to The Lake House, a fabulous 6-bedroom holiday home set within a stunning country estate by Whitby on the Yorkshire Coast. Looking out onto a naturally fed lake and beautiful landscaped gardens, this large luxury holiday cottage is an exclusive choice for that special celebration or get-together with family or friends. And with the estate’s Spa, restaurants and bars a few minutes’ walk away you have everything you need for that perfect 5 Star holiday in Yorkshire.

The Lake House is quite possibly the most exclusive large holiday home on the Yorkshire coast, and beyond. With a location to die for the interior is no less impressive, so if you’re looking for accommodation with serious wow factor for a celebration this is it…

Step into the formal entrance hall and find a cosy wood-burner to welcome you in along with a grand sweeping staircase leading you up to the first floor. To your left is the large farmhouse style kitchen, big enough for everyone to gather around for a few pre-dinner glasses of bubbly. With its AGA, granite worktops and French doors to throw open out to the patio, it has a sense of country house grandeur in here. There’s also a large table by the window for those noisy and oh so lovely family breakfasts…

Make your way up the fabulous staircase in The Lake House and discover a mezzanine formal dining room. With an open fire in the corner you can picture those memorable evenings where good food, wine and laughter go on long into the night. Next door is the huge sitting room with its vaulted high ceilings and gorgeous views out across the lake. Elegant, spacious and very family-friendly…

The Lake House has 6 roomy bedrooms to choose from (3 of which are en suite) and all enjoy those same amazing views across estate. All of the bedrooms in this large luxury cottage on the Yorkshire Coast are delicious but we are rather in love with the magnificent master bedroom with its decadent private balcony and Romanesque en suite bathroom… All of the beds are doubles and 4 are zip & link giving you the flexibility of up to 4 twin rooms should you need it.

Outside the Lake House you can enjoy al fresco dining on your private terrace looking out onto the lake. After lunch stretch your legs with a wander down to the beautiful landscaped gardens, waterfalls and woodlands within this 100 acre estate, say hello to the resident alpachas or head on down to the lovely sandy beach at Sandsend, just 10 minutes’ walk away.

Use of the Estate's swimming pool is available for all guests of The Lake House at a cost of £10.00 per adult / £5.00 per child per day.
Children’s splash times also apply which are 10.00am – 12.00pm and 4.00-6.00pm daily.

Local Area

The Lake House is set on its own within a 100 acre country estate in Sandsend, a very pretty village on the Yorkshire Coast. Tucked away in a secluded spot in the hills sloping down to the coast, this large luxury Yorkshire cottage is also just a few miles from some of the most stunning scenery in the North York Moors National Park.

The grounds of the estate are at your disposal. Take a walk around the woodlands, walk hand in hand with someone special in the formal gardens or mosey on down to Sandsend and feel the sand between your toes within a few minutes. There is also a world class spa with swimming pool, sauna and Jacuzzi as well as several restaurants and bars on the estate, so you can enjoy all the freedom of luxury self-catering with 5 Star service thrown in. And if you’re travelling with your doggie even they can enjoy a little pampering at the Estate’s luxury Dog Spa!

Sandsend is a gorgeous little seaside village within easy walking distance from The Lake House. With its handsome promenade, long stretch of beach and several excellent dining options you could happily spend a day there. Sandsend is set on the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline; a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, you can indulge in a classic English seaside holiday. That’s not to say it’s stuck in the past, in fact the Yorkshire Coast’s villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside up-market restaurants and champagne bars.

The Lake House is also just a few miles from the beautiful town of Whitby. With its wonderful seaside heritage, excellent restaurants, independent shops and host of bars and cafes along its medieval streets it has so much to offer the discerning holidaymaker. It’s also well worth striking out to sample some of the other coastal villages nearby. Robin Hood’s Bay is one of the most popular coastal locations in Yorkshire, or the UK for that matter. The village is a maze of cobbled streets and higgledy-piggledy houses which seem to tumble down towards the sea. Staithes and Runswick Bay are also all within easy driving distance, each with their own unique charm.

Head inland from The Lake House and you can be in the heart of the North York Moors within minutes. Take a tour of the impossibly pretty towns and villages in the area, Egton, Danby, Castleton, Rosedale…Or head up on the high moorland of Castleton Rigg, we guarantee on a clear day it will take your breath away.

Stunning location, overlooking lake in secluded countryside. Huge house, beautifully furnished, very comfortable and relaxing. Raithwaite Estate is a jewel on the Yorkshire Coast. Love it !

The house and its private setting are lovely; a great venue for a a family get together. Feedback is variable as we had issues with kitchen chairs not fit for purpose, TVs not working and poor Wifi.
The "10 minute" walk to Sandsend takes rather longer, the short route being across country makes it unsuitable for pushchairs or those infirm on foot.
Having said this, the issues are being addressed and I hope future guests will not experience similar disappointments. The Lake House is worth a visit but falls short of a 5 star rating.
