Elegant, stylish and comfortable; welcome to the gorgeous Butler’s Retreat. Set within a 16th Century Manor House in a pretty village in North Yorkshire, this cosy one-bedroom cottage is a delicious mix of old and new. Nestling between the Dales and the North York Moors with a fantastic foodie pub just a stone’s throw away, the location is excellent too. The perfect country hideaway for couples and solo travellers looking for a spot of grandeur.
Butler’s Retreat is a beautiful one-bedroom holiday cottage occupying the first floor of a striking Elizabethan Manor House. Looking out towards the summer house and garden on one side and a pretty courtyard to the other, it offers total peace and tranquillity for those who want to escape the hustle bustle of modern day life.
Come in via a private entrance and up the stairs to your own little slice of heaven. The landing gives an immediate sense of personality with its well-placed antiques and graceful décor. Make your way into the open plan living area which includes the kitchen, dining area and cosy lounge. Each guest will arrive to a gorgeous welcome hamper, so pull up a chair and indulge in some home-baked treats while your loved one rustles up a cup of Yorkshire tea.
The sleek contemporary kitchen comes complete with everything you will need during your stay including a hob, oven, fridge (with freezer drawer) and a microwave. Whilst you rustle up an indulgent cooked breakfast take some time to admire the original artwork on the walls, most of which is by the Owner herself….
Later, as the evening draws in, fire up the wood-burner and stake your claim to the armchair by the fire with a good book - no-one minds if you change into your PJs a little early. And if reading seems like too much effort snuggle down to a movie on the LCD TV or catch up with things online with the high-speed broadband.
Time for bed. Mooch along the landing to the huge master bedroom boasting a Super-King size bed with bespoke headboard, an original fireplace and double aspect windows. The bed can also be set as two singles if preferred. The bathroom is just next door, a statement in period style with its antique roll-top bath and Farrow and Ball hues. Draw yourself a bath each evening and enjoy the sights and sounds of an English country garden from the comfort of the warm water.
The outside space in Butler’s Retreat is equally impressive. You have direct access to stunning grounds which include a lawned garden, patio area, summerhouse and an immaculate hard-surface tennis court. There’s lockable storage for bicycles and a BBQ for those balmy summer evenings, G & T in hand…
Butler’s Retreat has a great location just a few miles away from the famous Coast to Coast walk. And if you’re a bit of a foody there are several excellent dining pubs in the area, including the fantastic Black Bull at Moulton 5 minutes walk away and the Shoulder of Mutton at Middleton Tyas a few miles up the road. The Coach House at Middleton Lodge is another gorgeous option.
The cottage is just a few miles away from the pretty market town of Northallerton where handsome Georgian houses line the long main street. The wonderful Betty’s Tearooms is here as is a fantastic local deli, Lewis & Cooper’s Food Emporium and of course the quintessentially Yorkshire department store of Barkers. Head up towards Reeth and on towards Hawes in Wensleydale for a true taste of this magnificent countryside. Stop at the Wensleydale Heiffer for lunch before heading back to the comfort of your large luxury Yorkshire cottage.
To take in the North York Moors head in the opposite direction and brave it up Sutton Bank, the view from the top said by some to be the finest in all of England. The gorgeous market town of Helmsley makes for the perfect pit-stop and if you feel like something special for lunch make your way to the Star Inn at Harome.
