You may have heard something on the grapevine about a 100 Day Cultural Festival in Yorkshire leading up the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in July this year.
Guaranteed to enthuse and animate even the most sceptical of Yorkshire-folk, it’s really something to get excited about, whatever your interest in the arts…
Yorkshire’s 100 Day Cultural Festival – What’s it all about?
So what’s it all about then? Well, in a nutshell, the 100 Day Cultural Festival will be a celebration of the Tour de France coming to this part of the world. Leading up to the Grand Depart itself, with the focus of the activity from mid-June onwards, it will help to build up the hype and interest around the race.
But for those of you who have no idea or inclination about cycling, it’s not all about the race! This important festival will also be a spotlight on the very best of Yorkshire’s artistic talent. It will provide a global showcase for this talent and, hopefully, provide a lasting legacy for all those who participant in it.
Yorkshire’s 100 Day Cultural Festival – main elements
There will be a host of events and installations commissioned during the Festival’s 100 Days, but in the main it will encompass the following:
- Animation of the route – This is likely to be the most prominent and lasting impression the Festival will create. It has commissioned around four large-scale, high-impact art experiences at key stages of the route.
- Community commissions – Approximately 20 commissions designed to create memorable art experiences in a community-centred arts activity. Look out for one near you in the coming months.
- Spotlight on the Peloton & Sportive Program – various events focusing on this particular theme
- Fringe – likely to be a large number of smaller Fringe events happening right across Yorkshire throughout the 100 Days
