I know we’ve bragged about this in the past, but it’s such a great stat that we just have to say it again. Yorkshire has more Michelin Starred restaurants than any other county in England outside of London.
In the 2014 Michelin Guide five top Yorkshire restaurants made the cut. So if you’re on holiday North of the capital and are hankering for some fine dining Yorkshire style, then make your way to any one of these fine establishments.
Yorkshire’s Michelin Starred Restaurants
The Box Tree, Ilkley
Something of a Yorkshire institution now, The Box Tree in Ilkley has been serving world class food since way back in the 1960s… Run by husband and wife team Simon and Rena Gueller, it continues to provide a modern French classical menu and a very impressive wine list. And with its setting in the beautiful Victorian town of Ilkley, it’s worth staying around a few days… www.theboxtree.co.uk
The Yorke Arms, Ramsgill
Set on a picturesque village green in Nidderdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Yorke Arms has retained its Michelin star from 2003. Led by Frances Atkins, one of only six female Michelin-starred chefs in the UK, it has a host of other noteworthy awards and accolades to its name. Most recently it was ranked 3rd in The Times Top 100 UK restaurants. The menu is a timeless classic affair making good use of the bountiful local organic produce in the Dales. http://yorke-arms.co.uk
The Black Swan, Oldstead
Heading east to the North York Moors National Park and the wonderful Black Swan at Oldstead… Something of a rising star, the restaurant is becoming known as one of the top places to dine in the North. And if you’re planning on making a holiday of your visit, there are countless Yorkshire attractions and beautiful places to visit nearby including the picture-postcard market town of Helmsley. http://blackswanoldstead.co.uk
The Pipe and Glass, Dalton
Once thought of as a bit of a culinary desert, East Yorkshire has seen something of a renaissance in recent years, with The Pipe and Glass in Dalton leading the way. Standing on the site of the original Gatehouse of Dalton Park, this excellent gastro-pub come restaurant is well worth striking out for. The interior has a rustic but refined look and it provides a comfortable backdrop to what is very fine dining indeed. http://www.pipeandglass.co.uk
