The biggest sporting event in the World is on its way to Yorkshire next July, the 2014 Grand Depart for the Le Tour De France.

5 reasons to get excited about the Le Tour De France Grand Depart in Yorkshire
1. 100 Day Cultural Festival
It’s not all about lycra and bicycles. Long before the cyclists arrive Welcome to Yorkshire will be celebrating this unique event in Yorkshire’s history with a 100 day cultural festival. Running from 27th March 2014 the festival promises to showcase the very best of Yorkshire artistic talent and offers everyone the chance to enjoy all that Yorkshire has to offer. 2. Home-made talent
Unless you’ve been living in a cave somewhere very far away in the last few years you will know all about Britain’s wealth of cycling talent. Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Chris Froome. All huge names in the sport and all likely to be involved next year – it will be absolutely thrilling to see them flying past in the flesh. What you may not know is that Harrogate is where Mark Cavendish has his routes, it would be sheer romance to see him lead the sprint finish here next July.
3. Welcoming the world to Yorkshire
There will be hundreds of thousands of people coming to Yorkshire next summer, from all over the world. Any many more millions will be watching on TV. The stunning landscape of Yorkshire will be show-cased to the world, time to puff up the chest and feel proud of our beautiful country. And once the hullabaloo of the Yorkshire Grand Depart is over, you can come and experience a Yorkshire Cottage Holiday all for yourself.
4. Cycling the Yorkshire Grand Depart Route
Getting back to the race itself, the challenging route has just been announced and will test the professional cyclists to the limit. If you want to ride in their tracks you can with easy to follow permanent signs, now visible along the Grand Depart route. Even if you’re a bit of a good-weather cyclist, as I am, there is a certain thrill in riding the same roads as the greats of the sport.
5. Time to Party
The Grand Depart is set over two days starting on the 5th and 6th of July in Leeds and York respectively, with the sprint finishes in Harrogate and Sheffield. All of these stunning Yorkshire cities are getting ready to host a party of global proportions. Even if you’re not overly interested in the cycling, these Yorkshire cities and towns will be buzzing this weekend. Everyone who is anyone in Yorkshire will be there, so you should come too!
