When we heard that a new water park had opened which promised an Alpine experience in the heart of Scarborough we just had to go along and check it out for ourselves. It cost a whopping £14m to create Scarborough’s newest attraction and the huge Alpamare Water Park was launched in July 2016.
So is it worth a visit? Well the verdict of 2 adults and 3 children who sampled the slides, pools and waves is a resounding YES and here are the 5 top reasons to give it a try!
#01 The huge water slides
There are 4 great slides to choose from so everyone can pick a favourite. Thrill seekers will love the Black Run which is a traditional one-person water slide that is both steep and fast. For a more sociable ride you can choose either the Olympic Run for 2 people or the Snow Storm (we really enjoyed going down together on a 4-person boat).
Rounding out the slides is the Cresta Run (based on its name sake in St Moritz) – you travel down on a mat and I recommend on your stomach and face first! We couldn’t quite choose which one was our favourite so just sampled all of them several times!
#02 Tropical temperatures
Now that we are firmly in Autumn and the weather is getting decidedly wet and chilly you may think a day at a water park doesn’t sound like the best idea. However Alpamare will transport you to more tropical climes. The 2 pools are kept at 35 degrees and temperatures inside are also warm so you can relax in the provided loungers if you fancy some time out of the water.
#03 Plenty to do
We spent around 4 hours at Alpamare so it makes a great family day out. As well as the slides (which kids will want to go on again and again) the main pool is enormous and includes waves every 30 minutes plus a splash and play area for kids.
If you fancy a bit of time out and relaxation, head to the outdoor gardens and infinity pool which is filled with healing iodine water and has stunning views across Scarborough bay.
#04 Good facilities (and attentive staff)
We found the staff at Alpamare to be knowledgeable about what was available at the park and were genuinely happy to answer any questions we had.
An on-site café (you are given a wristband to tot up your purchases so that you don’t have to carry cash while enjoying the park) is well stocked with fresh food and offered a great selection for the kids. The changing facilities were spacious and clean and the showers were nice and hot to round off the day.
#05 Happy kids
The most important test was whether the kids enjoyed their time at Alpamare and we left with 3 very content kids who were all fast asleep on the way home. They loved their day out and I think we will have to plan another visit soon!
The costs to visit Alpamare are £19 per adult, £15 per child or £60 for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. For more information visit: www.alpamare.co.uk
