Flamingo Land
Flamingo Land is always a favourite with children of all ages with rides ranging from sedate to thrill-seeking. This theme park near Malton also includes a zoo with experiences to try including meeting Meerkats and Penguins.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Yorkshire Wildlife Park is the no.1 walk-through wildlife park in the UK. There are around 400 types of animals to see and kids will love spotting the lions, tigers, leopards and polar bears. This Yorkshire attraction is easily reached via the A1. Through the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Foundations supports the conservation of endangered species.
Jorvik Viking Centre
Re-launched in 2017, the Jorvik Viking Centre celebrates the rich Viking history of York. The highlight of the experience is a journey through a re-created Viking village in a state-of-the-art capsule. There’s also a glass floor where you can view the actual dig site and lots of ancient Viking relics on display.

Harewood House
There’s lots to keep children entertained at this grand stately home between York and Harrogate. Harewood House grounds include a Bird Garden where you can feed the penguins, an adventure playground and even boat trips. In the house children can play dress up with Victorian costumes
The Forbidden Corner
The Forbidden Corner is a top choice among grandchildren and grandparents alike. This Wensleydale attraction is close to Middleham and has acres of grounds to explore. There are surprises around every corner – you’ll never know quite what is lurking around the next one at this fabulous folly!
Eureka! The National Chidren’s Museum
You can combine entertainment with education at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum. Recommended for children up to the age of 11, there are six different zones in the museum. In ‘All About Me’ children will learn more about the human body including climbing in teeth and looking up a giant nose. In ‘Living and Working Together’ they can explore a child-size town square.
Big Sheep Little Cow
Enjoy all the fun of the farm at this family friendly attraction near Bedale. Children can tour the working farm and can hand and bottle-feed the animals including sheep, goats pigs and llamas. There’s also an indoor soft play area so that your grandchildren can run off some energy too
Lightwater Valley
There are thrills and spills aplenty at the Lightwater Valley theme park near Ripon. Older grandchildren will love a ride on The Ultimate – it’s the longest roller coaster in Europe but there is plenty for younger grandchildren too. Enjoy a sedate ride on a Swan Boat or get wet on the Wild River Rapid.
