The lovely village of Osmotherley is surrounded by the beautiful North York Moors countryside with the Hambleton Hills to the South of the village and the Cleveland Way to the North.
It’s as pretty as can be and a top choice for walkers – the walk to nearby Mount Grace Priory is particularly scenic.
Sheepwash (which is just north of the village) is a popular picnic choice and there’s also a great selection of pubs and places to eat in and around Osmotherley.
You’ll find classic Yorkshire food and hearty portions on the menu at this quaint Osmotherley pub. In the colder months you’ll be warmed by the toasty wood-burner inside The Three Tuns while the beer garden is a perfect spot for the warmer summer months.
This historic Osmotherley coaching inn is kept cosy and warm with two roaring fires. You’ll always also find four cask conditioned ales being served behind the bar. The Queen Catherine is a traditional pub with home cooked food served each lunch time and evening with classics like Fish and Chips and Steak and Ale pie. There’s also lots of outside seating for summer.
The Cleveland Tontine is renowned throughout Yorkshire for its excellent quality food and drink and since 2016 has been part of the Provenance Inns group. The elegant menu is beautifully presented and is full of ingredients by local suppliers. The Cleveland Tontine is just a few miles away from Osmotherley.
The Golden Lion is an 18th-century stone inn (complete with roaring log fire) that looks out over the market cross on the village green. The menu is full of classic dishes with a few more contemporary choices which are all expertly (and freshly) cooked.
Around 10 miles from Osmotherley is the little village of Crathorne which has a few choices of places to eat of its own including the stately Crathorne Hall which was built in 1906 and is set in 15 acres of private grounds. The Leven Restaurant has 1 AA rosette and serves traditional dishes with a contemporary twist. We particularly love the Afternoon Tea at Crathorne Hall which goes perfectly with the elegant surroundings.
Five Houses is a beautiful farm shop and kitchen which was the brainchild of renowned local butchers, Kitson & Sons. As you would expect the café menu features top quality meat with homemade pies and burgers. There’s also though lots of lighter choices and a delicious cake selection. Five Houses is also ideal for breakfast with everything from eggs and avocado to a full Yorkshire breakfast.
The Joiner’s Shop at Ingleby Cross is part of Rounton Coffee Roasters so this café makes a great choice for a really good cup of coffee. It’s open every day from 9.30am – 4.00pm and the locally sourced, seasonal menu is ideal for a relaxed breakfast, lunch or brunch.
The charming market town of Stokesley has a wide selection of independent shops, pubs and restaurants to browse. There’s also a gently flowing river (with ducks) behind the town and a market each Friday. It’s home to Italian restaurant Il Mulinos which specialises in hand-made sourdough pizzas. There’s also lots of other classic pasta, risotto and meat options on the menu too.
The Blackwell Ox is a country pub with a difference – they specialise in authentic Thai cuisine and have a wide range of dishes on the menu including favourites like Pad Thai and Massaman curries. The pub includes open log fires and there’s also a large outside adventure play area for children.
This lovely country pub is around 10 miles from Osmotherley in the peaceful village of Swainby. It dates back to the 18th century and has lots of character thanks to oak beams and wood-burning fires. The speciality dish at The Blacksmith’s Arms is ‘Steak on a Stone’. Steaks are cooked to guests liking on a hot stone at the table.
