Treat yourselves to a stay at this comfortable, stone cottage in the peaceful village of Newton-on-Rawcliffe in North Yorkshire. Sleeping six guests, and welcoming happy hounds too, the three-bedroom, two-storey retreat property nestles on an appealing site alongside other attractive holiday homes. All the properties, including this cottage, have shared access to an indoor pool, sauna and hot tub, where you can swim and relax after your many excursions.

On the fringes of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the North Riding Forest Park, this cottage is ideal for keen walkers and those wishing to visit the bustling market town of Pickering, 4 miles away, with its medieval castle, museum and heritage trains along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. It could also suit guests wishing to plan a day out to the coast at Scarborough, 22.5 miles away.

Enter the property at ground-floor level and make your way through to the kitchen/diner to make a cup of tea for your friends and family and start preparing dinner. There is a table in here where you can all sit down to your hearty Yorkshire feasts together.

Light the wood burner in the lounge on chilly evenings, then find a film to enjoy together on the Smart TV as it crackles gently in the background. Play games in here and discuss the following day’s activities before heading off to bed.

One of your bedrooms, a twin room, are at ground-floor level, together with a family bathroom, while a double, a twin and another family bathroom are upstairs.

Spill out into the shared grounds on sunny days. Look out for wildlife in the water garden, with its pond, or dine out on warm evenings at the picnic tables on the patio. Spend time at the pool house having a sauna or hot tub or doing a few lengths of the 6-metre exercise pool. There is parking for two cars with this cottage.

Enjoy exploring your beautiful Yorkshire surroundings from this cottage at Newton-on-Rawcliffe. Make time to visit the historic town of Pickering, 4 miles away, where you can stroll down charming streets, amble round independent shops and pause for refreshment in tearooms, cafes and pubs.

Appreciate the Georgian architecture which stands alongside cosy, traditional cottages in the town. Find time to catch a steam or heritage diesel train along the North York Moors Railway, which starts in Pickering and runs to Whitby and back through some of the most picturesque countryside in Yorkshire.

Further afield, you can explore the awe-inspiring North York Moors, a landscape of gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to head deeper into the naturally beautiful landscape, take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands, an area known for its superb hiking.

Also visit the other delightful towns and villages of these fascinating moors, where honey-coloured sandstone buildings lend a warm contrast to the deep purple and green of the surrounding hills. The charming town of Kirkbymoorside is 11.5 miles from the cottage and is a treasure trove of art and antiques’ shops and tearooms. Also visit the Ryedale Folk Museum while you are here and make time to browse in the lively market on Wednesdays.

Theme park and zoo Flamingo Land is 9 miles away, and Eden Camp, a fascinating modern history museum, is an 11.5-mile drive. Head to Scarborough, 22.5 miles away, to see the castle or to go to the beach and enjoy a traditionally British day out at the seaside.

Property and amenities were a little tired, but location was quiet and kids loved the table tennis table and the pool. The jar of sweets on arrival was a fab touch!
