This strikingly beautiful converted barn in the North York Moors is an excellent retreat for a couple or family wanting to get away from the bustle and immerse themselves in rolling hillsides. Enjoy a delicious meal in Castleton at The Eskdale, an award winning and Michelin recommended restaurant. A little further afield is The Lion Inn (6 miles), serving food and drinks with impressive views, and boasting a variety of nearby footpaths to explore. The Esk Valley Walk can be joined directly from the cottage, making it a brilliant starting point for cycling, walking, and other outdoor adventures. The vibrant seaside town of Whitby is 15 miles away, and has something for every taste and age, including an imposing Gothic Abbey, unforgettable boat trips, quaint cobbled streets and a wealth of pubs and bars to choose from. Alternatively, venture down the coast to beaches such as Sandsend, Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes (all within 19 miles), where walking, cycling, horse-riding, and sandy beaches offer an outdoor paradise.

Step inside the entrance of your getaway, slip your shoes off and toast chilly feet on the underfloor heating. Three steps take you down to the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, where the windows frame beautiful views across the village and valley. This beautifully cosy space is perfect for relaxing, especially on the sofa in front of the wood burner, or while watching a film on the Smart TV. In the corner, there's a fully equipped kitchen with all the appliances needed to dish up tasty dinners, while the adjacent four-seater dining table provides a space to eat or listen to music on the Bluetooth speaker. When it's time to rest, two delightful bedrooms await. A double bedroom on the ground floor and a king-size bedroom on the first floor offer a calming palette that feels instantly relaxing. Each room features its own en-suite shower room, complete with a shower and WC, ensuring privacy during your stay. There's also a quiet nook upstairs with a comfy sofa, which can be used as a kids' hangout spot or reading space.

Heading to the exterior, rolling hillsides and leafy trees dot the landscape, which can all be enjoyed from your elevated patio and dining furniture. Enjoy morning coffees while soaking in birdsong, or evening tipples staying warm in front of the chimenea. There is tandem parking for two cars.

We had a wonderful stay at Parlour Cottage. It has been renovated to a high standard. The beds were comfortable and the showers were excellent. Lovely views across the valley with fields of sheep and rabbits. Peace and quiet. Such a pleasant surprise to find a coffee machine in the property even though it was not listed. The Eskdale was lovely...Read morea great gin selection and just 2 mins walk down the drive. Plenty of walks from the door. We highly recommend this cottage. Hide

This is maybe the nicest property we have ever had a holiday in. The location is great, with views over the valley to the village of Castleton; the railway station is about two hundred yards away, for the line along the Esk valley to Whitby (or Middlesborough if you want to go there); everything in the property was of a first class standard, from Read morethe kitchen utensils and cookware to the bedding to the bathroom facilities. The patio has a lovely prospect over the valley, and blankets are provided in case it is a bit chilly. The little snug gives an extra room for anyone wanting some peace and quiet on their own, and there is a TV in the living area and each bedroom. Top class. We had the privilege of being the first people in after the fitting out of the property: one snag cropped up while we were there (which was no fault of the owners, who live more-or-less next door and who are very nice) but this was dealt with quietly and efficiently. Very much to be recommended. Hide
