Set within the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this elegant cottage is a wonderful base for exploring the North York Moors National Park and the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Ride a steam train from Pickering (18 miles) through the sublime, local landscape. Enjoy a whale-watching boat trip in Whitby and walk the streets to soak in the historic ambience of Gothic architecture, smugglers and shipwrecks. Castle Howard (13 miles) is one of Britain’s finest stately homes, set in 1000 acres of parkland with temples, lakes, statues and fountains; it’s also home to the splendid Yorkshire Arboretum. York (13.5 miles) is a majestic medieval city, with its Minster, Viking centre attraction, winding cobbled lanes and superb independent pubs, shops, galleries, museums and eateries.

Inside you’ll find a bright and welcoming interior that has retained its historic charm. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is a wonderful space – the kitchen area is spacious and streamlined, with windows over the worktops that look onto the lawn. The floor-to-ceiling window/door allows natural light to flood in, and there’s underfloor heating in this room too for added cosiness. Ascend the wooden stairs to the first floor, to find a king-size bedroom with a large window, a single bedroom with sweet lawn views and the soothing bathroom, with a bath and shower. On the first floor you’ll also find the shared laundry room.

The cottage is ok except the garden is a shared area at the front. There is a small patio area a few meters away from the cottage next door, no separation so if you want a quiet or private holiday this is probably not the place for you. It says dog friendly but there are chickens running loose over gardens etc so not ideal. There are no curtains/Read moreblinds on the front of the property so there is an obvious lack of privacy here too! The lady who does the cleaning etc was lovely and very helpful. The owner was quite rude and unhelpful sadly Hide

a very cosy cottage in a lovely village. the rooms are a good size and bed nice and comfy. bathroom and kitchen spotless and shower runs on good pressure. enough in th kitchen to cook with. ample garden complete with tennis court to have a game but you need to bring your own equipment i think. fantastic countryside views all around. greRead moreat pub about five mins stroll serving good food and drinks. no shop in village nearest one about a five min drive. helmsley is nearest market town with everything there you need to stock up. the host is lovely and was there for us if we needed anything. not that we did. will definitely be back.
