This renovated farm cottage, situated next to a Grade II-listed 18th century corn mill, offers a charming holiday for families that want to relax in the North Yorkshire countryside in splendid grounds.

This superb stone cottage, which was a cow shed in its former life, is an ideal getaway for families looking to experience country life deep in the heart of Wensleydale. Set on the edge of a hamlet called Healey with extensive gardens, you'll see that you are surrounded by countryside at this property, yet still within easy driving distance of bustling towns. The nearest town of Masham (3 miles) boasts Georgian buildings around a cobbled square, site of the famous Sheep Fair in September. Take a tour around the well-known Black Sheep and Theakston's breweries. Attractive nearby towns include Leyburn, Middleham, Pateley Bridge, Richmond and Ripon.

Step through the sliding glass doors into the spacious new living room with views of Colsterdale and the extensive gardens. A door leads into the bright kitchen with exposed beams an separate dining area. Down a few steps you will find double and twin bedrooms separated by a bathroom with a shower over bath and WC. A third en-suite zip and link double bedroom is located off the new living room.

At the front of the property, there is a fully enclosed courtyard which is loved by dogs and perfect for enjoying an al fresco drink in the evenings or sizzling up a BBQ. Venture through the gate to the wonderful extensive gardens, where there is a mill pond and a delightful lawn area for you to enjoy a picnic. Say hello to the ducks and chickens that are wandering around on-site and take the children to play on the swings or in the football goal that are all freely available for you to use.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

  • 3 bedrooms – 2 doubles and 1 twin
  • Cottage available on either a 3-bedroom or 2-bedroom basis.
  • 2 bathrooms both with showers (one over bath)
  • Oven/hob, microwave, kettle, fridge/freezer, washing machine.
  • Wood Burner in living room.
  • Football goal posts and net, swings and other outdoor toys for children.
  • Environmentally friendly heating and hot water generated by biomass.
  • Wi-Fi included.
  • 2 well trained Dogs welcome.
  • Ample off road parking.
  • Pub within 1 mile and shops within 3 miles.
  • Bike Storage.
  • SMART TV/DVD.
  • Travel cot and high chair available on request when booking.
  • Please note that there is a unsecured mill pond within the grounds and children must be supervised in the gardens at all times.

The property is set on the edge of a sleepy and very pretty little hamlet in deepest Wensleydale. There are some lovely walks right from the door, and the next village along boasts a great foodie pub. Heading west will take you over the high ground of Nidderdale and down into Pateley Bridge, a very popular and bustling market town. A few miles in the opposite direction takes you further up into Wensleydale with the wonderful Jervaulx Abbey and Brymor ice cream parlour.

The nearest town is Masham (2 miles), a gorgeous and thriving market town where handsome old Georgian buildings politely gather around a cobbled square. Every year there is a famous sheep fair held in the square. There are lots of delights to discover in the town including an excellent fine dining restaurant, a host of lovely cafes, a top-notch wine shop and several very good butchers. And if you enjoy a tipple or two, it's also home to the world-famous Black Sheep & Theakstons Breweries too. You can visit both, sample their wares in their own pubs and take some home for later too!

The property is also just a short drive to Middleham (10 miles), one of Yorkshire's loveliest villages. Famous for its castle (once home to Richard III) it's also home to several racehorse trainers; you will see and hear the horses being led through the village up to the gallops every day. And to top it off there is a lovely collection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops.

Or how about a morning visiting the charming market town of Leyburn (12 miles). Leyburn is an archetypal slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond (20 miles) is similar in many ways and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.

There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range. Aysgarth Falls (20 miles), Bolton Castle (18 miles) and the gorgeous villages of West Burton (25 miles) and Askrigg (25 miles) are relatively near, so there’s lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about. If walking is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise. And there are plenty of options for cycling too in this Tour De France country.

The Mistal is an amazing cottage in an amazing spot. The owners couldn't have been more helpful. Fabulous welcome pack complete with free range eggs. Wonderful garden area with chickens and ducks and a couple of swings for children. The only comment I would make is that the master bedroom is quite a distance from the double and twin and may be someRead morething to consider if taking young children. Lovely cottage, very well appointed with an abundance of decorative touches. Lovely rural location with easy access to visit the Dales, plenty of parking. We were greeted by Richard and Carol the owners with milk, cake and a basket of goodies. Big garden with a pond area to sit and admire the views.

What a lovely cottage, the photos don't do it justice. The modern lounge area is the gem of the house. We had a great holiday, the kids loved exploring the garden, the dog was made most welcome and our hosts were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

We all had a fantastic weekend staying in Mistal cottage. It had every home comfort, was spotlessly clean and the owners could not have made us feel more welcome. A great location for walking and visiting some beautiful countryside and villages. Look forward to returning in the near future.

A perfect welcome (including homemade fruit loaf, milk, eggs, jam, beer, etc etc) beautifully decorated and furnished and in a great location. When I say that the only improvements we could suggest are to invest in a better potato peeler and masher you get the idea!

The cottage is well placed to access both the Yorkshire Dales and towns such as Ripon and York. The cottage sits is some lovely grounds with a mill pond, ducks, chickens and lots of wild birds. It is very peaceful. You have to ask the owner, who lives next door, for the heating temperature to be adjusted which is a bit strange

Had a lovely four nights at this beautiful cottage. It is furnished immaculately and was spotlessly clean. There were lots of thoughtful touches, such as fresh eggs and a bottle of milk, even a roll of kitchen towels (something you often forget to pack but always need!). The welcome hamper was amazing and the homemade cake was demolished in no timeRead more. Dogs really are welcome too, with special dog towels and warm water outside for washing paws. The contained courtyard and wider grounds were great. Hide
