#01 Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton
The Wensleydale Heifer is a very popular dog-friendly restaurant in the pretty Wensleydale village of West Witton. There’s a wide selection of freshly caught seafood on the menu (including Lobster and Fish and Chips) as well as locally sourced meat. A great option for food after a walk with the dog!
#02 The Blue Lion in East Witton
The Blue Lion is well regarded as one of the finest gastro pubs in Yorkshire and combines traditional cosy surroundings with really good food. It’s located in the lovely village of East Witton which is between Jervaulx and Middleham in Wensleydale.
#03 The Farmer’s Arms in Muker
Set in a honeypot Swaledale village, The Farmer’s Arms has lots of traditional Yorkshire Dales charms. You can enjoy everything from a pint to an evening meal at this dog-friendly pub and there’s lots of hearty fare on the menu.
#04 The Retreat Tearoom & Bistro in Grassington
During the day you can enjoy a range of hot food, sandwiches and cakes to keep you going during a walk with your dog. In the evening the meals become a little fancier with options like pan fried sea bass and ballotine of chicken. Dogs are more than welcome in both the daytime tearoom and evening bistro too!
#05 The Lister Arms, Malham
Doggies will be made more than welcome in the bar area of The Lister Arms and will even get a home-made dog biscuit. This 17th century coaching inn is a great choice for a bite to eat and you’ll get proper Yorkshire portions in very scenic surroundings.
#06 The Café at Car and Kitchen in Settle
Located just off the market square in Settle is this very nice bistro style café within the Car and Café shop. Dogs are welcome, and the tasty food is fresh, light and very well presented. A perfect stop for a lazy brunch or light lunch.
#07 The Punch Bowl Inn at Low Row
One of our favourite Yorkshire gastro pubs, The Punch Bowl Inn has an idyllic location in the Swaledale village of Low Row. You’ll get quality local food (with meat sourced from nearby farmers), original 17th century features and contemporary luxury style. There’s a traditional carvery served every Sunday too!
#08 The Firebox Café in Hawes
You’ll find The Firebox Café next to the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes. This friendly family-run café offers a range of freshly made sandwiches and sweet treats washed down with Yorkshire Tea or Roost coffee. It’s part of Stage One Cycles and doggies will be made more than welcome on a visit.
#09 The Bivouac Café at Swinton Park
The Swinton Park Bivouac is part of the 20,000-acre Swinton Estate and is a lovely rural setting for a woodland walk. The dog-friendly on-site café offers breakfasts, an all-day food menu and an ice-cream parlour. They can even provide you with a picnic if you fancy eating in the great outdoors.
#10 The Bridge Inn at Grinton
Grinton is around a mile from Reeth and makes a great choice for a circular riverside walk from this popular Swaledale village. The Bridge Inn dates back to the 15th century and you can choose to sit outside (opposite the 12th century Church of St. Andrew) or in front of the cosy wood-burning fire.
This is a traditional Yorkshire pub where you’ll find real ale and home-cooked food.
