Every October the Victorian Spa town of Ilkley in the Yorkshire Dales plays host to what has become one of the highlights of the UK literary calendar, the Ilkley Literature Festival.
Held over a two week period, there are almost 200 hundred separate events (including a fringe Children’s Literature Festival) held in a variety of venues across town including the grand King’s Hall and Ilkely Playhouse. Over the years the event has grown into the buzzing festival it is today – this year sees its 40 year anniversary – and it has a perfect setting in this beautiful Yorkshire town…

Highlights of the Ilkley Literature Festival 2013
Masterclass with Simon Armitage – Sat 5th Oct – 2pm
A unique chance to have tutelage from one of the UK’s leading poets. Pen and paper a must as Simon provides inspiration for you to pen your own poetry masterpieces!
Jonathan Dimbleby: Destiny in the Desert – Friday 4th Oct- 2pm
The iconic presenter, political commentator and writer reviews his dramatic account of the months leading to the battle of El Alamein in November 1942.
BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions – Fri 4th Oct – 7.15pm
This live broadcast of Radio 4’s political panel program is set in the stunning Kings Hall. Chaired by David Dimbleby it offers you a chance to question the leading politicians of our time.
Sorry! The English and their Manners – Henry Hitchings – Sat 5th Oct – 1:30pm
Journalist and award winning writer Henry Hitchings takes an amusing look at England’s customs and tries to cover the essence of the English character.

Ilkely Yorkshire Dales
