Set looking out over an apple orchard which gives the cottage its name, Orchard Cottage is a charming 2-bedroom/ 2-bathroom barn conversion with attractive interior and a peaceful rural setting.
This cottage has everything you could need for a relaxing break in this gorgeous part of Yorkshire. It's beautifully furnished and set betwixt the two grand Yorkshire Estates of Sandhall and Saltmarshe. The perfect escape to the country!
All the accommodation in Orchard Cottage is on one level and at the heart of this property is the open plan living space. The light and comfortable lounge area has plenty of space to relax and unwind with a choice of two sofas to curl up on. You can light the wood-burning fire for extra cosiness and spend an evening catching up on your favourite shows on the 32-inch TV and DVD player.
Stylish room dividers help to separate the sitting area from the kitchen / diner which has everything you need to rustle up something delicious and then enjoy it with family or friends afterwards. White units and solid wooden worktops give the kitchen a chic country look and you'll find a gas oven and hob, fridge, sink and handy dishwasher so no-one has to do the washing up.
The large circular wooden dining table sits at the heart of the kitchen.
A separate utility area is right next to the kitchen and contains a freezer, washing machine and microwave. You'll also find a rail for coats and extra storage for your boots and shoes.
Orchard Cottage has two large bedrooms which both have super-king size beds and access to their own bathrooms - after all who wants to share when you can have your own? Each bedroom can be set up with twin beds if preferred making this property flexible for couples, families, and groups of friends.
Bedroom one leads off from the kitchen (up a small step) and mixes warm aqua and biscuit colours with classic painted furniture pieces including an antique occasional chair. This bedroom has its own en-suite shower room with a large shower to get you ready for the day ahead. Please note there is a small step into the shower.
Bedroom two is at the other side of the cottage and is an elegant oasis of calm with muted creams and pretty duck egg blues. Right next to this bedroom is the separate large house bathroom which includes P-shaped bath, overhead shower, Karndean slate grey flooring and light-up cosmetic mirror.
Outside the property is a small apple orchard where you can watch your children playing on the swing and seesaw whilst enjoying a drink on the paved area under the apple trees.
Orchard Cottage has a beautiful rural location set close to 100 acres of rural park and farmland beside the River Ouse in Howdenshire. There are lots of gorgeous river and parkland walks from the doorstep and you are surrounded by lush green landscapes at every turn. The charming market town of Howden is close by with its ancient streets, lovely shops, cafes, wine bars, Heritage Centre and historical buildings to explore. See if you can spot the tower of Howden Minster from the cottage.
Set right by the river, you can watch the tall masts of ships passing by on their way up the river to Goole. It's so peaceful here you just won't want to leave. There are wide paths for walkers/riders round the park, we recommend the river walk along to Blacktoft to the Hope and Anchor pub for a bite of lunch, and there are lots more walks to try.
There are lots of lovely country pubs in the area, including another great option within walking distance of the cottage, The Bricklayers Arms at Laxton. And if you feel like dining in we recommend the short trip to Kitchen in Howden. Stock up on the finest Yorkshire produce here, from excellent home-made bread to the most amazing pies and cakes. While you're there it would be a shame not to stop and enjoy a cup of tea and something sweet!
Howden is an ideal base from which to explore all that this area of Yorkshire has to offer. You are perfectly placed to explore York, the Wolds to the East and the North York Moors to the North. The beautiful city of Beverley is just half an hour's drive from the cottage. Explore the stunning Beverley Minster before indulging in a spot of shopping around its lively cobbled squares.
And further East, get to know the gorgeous Yorkshire Wolds, a range of low rolling hills rising from the river Humber and sweeping along to the stunning cliffs at Flamborough Head. This landscape was an inspiration to David Hockney with much of his work based on the countryside here. You can follow the Hockney Trail to discover the setting of some his more famous works. Keen golfers can enjoy one of two golf courses or the golfing range situated a few miles from Saltmarshe and for walkers or cyclists, why not follow the transpennine trail which passes us.
The Wolds are also home to many historical homes and religious sites as well as one of Yorkshire's largest lavender gardens. And for kids there are heaps of fantastic attractions nearby (indoor and out) including the excellent Yorkshire Wildlife Park and The Deep in Hull. Nearby Hull is also the 2017 UK City of Culture and offers much to the discerning visitor in terms of the Arts and other attractions. Williams Den at North Cave is a new childrens play adventure park, offering both inside and outside activities for children aged 4-12.
If you enjoy a spot of twitching you're in heaven here with many excellent bird watching sites within easy reach. Try North Cave Wetlands and The Delph, Saltmarshe. And if you want to see some Puffins and Gannets making their home on the cliffs take a drive over to the coast and marvel at the Bempton Cliffs.
The North York Moors and beautiful medieval City of York are also all within easy reach and make for a great day trip.
