With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, we have put together some of our favourite romantic weekend getaways in Yorkshire. Catch a steam train through the North York Moors, take a romantic stroll in the Yorkshire Dales, or sip champagne in a hot tub under the stars. Take a look and let us know what you think!
1. A romantic picnic for two
Picnics have moved on from soggy sandwiches, crisps and cans of fizzy drinks. Pack up a picnic hamper with artisan cheeses, olives, freshly baked bread, smoked salmon and a bottle of prosecco.
There’s so many scenic spots in Yorkshire to lay down a picnic blanket but our favourite spots include Rievaulx Abbey, Castle Howard and Bolton Abbey.
2. Take a steam train through the North York Moors
There’s something very romantic about a steam train – it’s all very Brief Encounter – and you can’t beat the scenic views of the North York Moors on an NYMR steam train. It’s like a trip back in time with traditional carriages and conductors in period uniforms. You can travel from Pickering to Whitby or the other way around.

The lack of light pollution in the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales make them ideal for stargazing. Grab a blanket and snuggle up outside while you look up into the beautiful night sky – it really is mesmerising.

4. A romantic walk in the Yorkshire countryside
Yorkshire was just made for romantic strolls with two National Parks in the form of the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, and a dramatic coastline that’s peppered with traditional fishing villages.
Some of our favourites include a walk up Roseberry Topping which has gorgeous views from the top and Malham Cove/Gordale Scar which was number three on ITV’s Britain’s Favourite Walks.

5. Sip champagne in a hot tub
