Yorkshire has already made quite a name for itself in the cycling world. First the Tour de France Grand Depart came to Yorkshire in 2014, then the annual Tour de Yorkshire became one of the highlights of the cycling calendar.

Now Yorkshire has scored another massive cycling coup. The UCI Road Cycling Championships are coming here in 2019!

Taking place over seven days, from the 22nd – 29th September, it will bring the world’s best cyclists to God’s Own Country!
The Races
The week of Yorkshire cycling action in the UCI Road World Championships 2019 will include time trials, road races and will feature the first ever mixed relay with men and women competing together in the same event.
This historic time trial will be done in a circular route around Harrogate (travelling right by Gorgeous Cottage The Penthouse). Harrogate will be the focal point for all the events with races ending in this popular Yorkshire spa town.

The mixed time trials pass right by Gorgeous Cottage The Penthouse!

The Routes
The cyclists will be able to enjoy some stunning scenery as the routes pass through some of our favourite Yorkshire towns and villages! If the Tour de Yorkshire is anything to go by there should be a fantastic atmosphere along the route.
So take a look at some of these honeypot locations and start planning where you will cheer the UCI Road World Championship competitors on!
The Men’s Elite Road Race
The final race on the 29th September starts at Leeds and heads up through Ilkley, Skipton, Kettlewell and Starbotton before reaching the Wensleydale village of Aysgarth.
The competitors will cycle up the Buttertubs pass to reach the Swaledale village of Keld before crossing stunning Swaledale through Low Row to Reeth.

The route then heads back down into Wensleydale through Leyburn, Middleham, Masham, East Witton, and Masham.

The final leg of the epic race travels through Ripon and Ripley before reaching its climax in Harrogate!
The Women’s Elite Road Race
On Saturday 28th September the elite women racers will take to the roads – setting off from Bradford.

Their route will pass through Otley before taking in some much of the gorgeous Nidderdale countryside with villages like Summerbridge, Pateley Bridge and Lofthouse on route to the popular market town of Masham.

From Masham the cyclists will head down to Harrogate through Ripon, Fountains Abbey and Hampsthwaite.
The Time Trials
The Men’s Time Trial (on the 25th September) will start in Northallerton and the cyclists will travel through Bedale, Masham, Grewelthorpe, Kirkby Malzeard and Ripley before finishing in Harrogate.

The Women’s Time Trial (on the 24th September) starts in Ripon and heads to Harrogate via Ripley. This time, once the cyclists have reached Harrogate, they will do a lap around the spa town.
Other Events
As well as the Elite versions of the road races and time trials there will also be junior and under-23 events. There’s also a para-cycling road race on the 21st September – the first time this has taken place alongside the UCI Road World Championships.
