An exceptional farmhouse with luxurious and elegant interiors set in peaceful Yorkshire countryside providing an ideal retreat for a family celebration any time of year.

Head to this breathtaking former Yorkshire farmhouse to treat yourselves to outstanding accommodation, luxuriate in exquisite interiors and immerse yourselves in picturesque countryside. Set on the fringes of Gilling West, 3 miles from Richmond, the sumptuous holiday home is also just over 3 miles from the Yorkshire Dales National Park and 21 miles from the North York Moors. Sleeping up to 12 guests and with gorgeous gardens and a hot tub, the exceptional abode could suit two or three families together or a group with a special occasion to celebrate.

Set off from here on long walks right from the doorstep. Stroll into the village to dine out on a home-cooked meal at a pub or venture into Richmond to discover its many unique attractions, including its abundance of independent shops and eateries. Head to the market town of Barnard Castle, 12 miles away, which also has everything a shopaholic craves, from boutique stores and fine art galleries to artisan food producers and antiques shops galore. See the fortress itself which is set on a high rock above the River Tees.

Wander through the arched farmhouse wall and delightful front garden to let yourselves into this impressive country house. Step inside to discover a stunning, spacious open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, where enormous expanses of glass pull the rural views right into the contemporary space. A dual-aspect wood burner sits at the heart of this gorgeous room, ready to be stoked up for relaxing nights in, so you can recline on the comfortable seating, switch on the Smart TV and unwind in the ambience of its cosy glow. On warm summer days, pull open the great glass doors instead so everyone can amble outside.

Wander over to the cutting-edge kitchen area to take turns at preparing sumptuous feasts for your hungry hordes. Roast tasty Yorkshire puddings and locally grown potatoes in the range-style oven, pausing to enjoy a glass of wine at the breakfast bar as it sizzles slowly. Serve delicious Sunday lunches up at the long table through in the orangery/diner and then make the most of having a dishwasher afterwards.

Find two of your fabulous bedrooms are also downstairs. These include a king-size bedroom and a super-king-size bedroom, each with a stunning, free-standing, copper bath in the room and an exquisite, en-suite shower room, featuring a bespoke stone handbasin. The four remaining bedrooms, which are just as beautifully and individually designed, can be found upstairs. Here you’ll find two king-size beds, one super-king-size bed and a super-king zip-and-link bed that can be arranged as a twin if discussed in advance, and all with en-suite shower rooms.

Luxuriate in the outside space at this incredible property too. To the front, find you have a delightful, enclosed courtyard with outdoor furniture and a hot tub, where you can bubble and steam after each busy day out. To the other side is a wonderful patio with wide open views of the fields beyond. Light the BBQ here on balmy summer evenings, sit out here as the sun goes down and the clear night sky fills with stars. Guests are also very welcome to wander the wider grounds of the estate, looking for wildlife and taking children to the play area.

A short drive from the house will bring you into the centre of Richmond, a diverse market town awash with potential for sightseeing, shopping and basking in the local culture. Set on the borders of Wensleydale and Swaledale, Richmond boasts an 11th-century castle, fine Georgian architecture, a historic Georgian theatre and a large cobbled market square as some of its many attractions. Stroll into town for a cup of Yorkshire tea at one of the many tearooms there or pop over for dinner at one of the excellent restaurants.

The gorgeous River Swale runs through the town and, across the river, less than 1 mile away, are the scenic River Swale Waterfalls. You can walk in either direction along the river and deep into the scenic countryside without having to go anywhere near the car. We also recommend exploring the restored former Richmond Railway Station which has lots to entertain young and old including a small cinema, cafe, gallery, microbrewery and artisan bakery.

Richmond is also known as the ‘Gateway to the Dales’, so expect stunning Dales scenery within minutes of leaving the town. Peppering this glorious countryside are countless attractive little towns and villages and, if you enjoy a bit of surreal entertainment, how about a visit to the quite brilliant Forbidden Corner, an attraction full of statues and hidden surprises, 14 miles from the farmhouse, near Middleham. Aysgarth Falls, 18 miles away, and Bolton Castle, 16 miles from your base, are also worth seeing.

The historic village of Easby, home to Easby Abbey, is just 4 miles away. Set on the banks of the River Swale, the abbey is the perfect spot for a picnic in the summer months. This is a superb area for walkers and cyclists with many picturesque routes from the doorstep or just a short distance away, including Alfred Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast Walk which passes through Richmond.

Further afield, 12 miles away, Barnard Castle is another hot spot for retail therapy and sampling local delights – and is also home to the iconic Bowes Museum and Egglestone Hall Gardens, a must for any day trip. Those in search of golfing opportunities be well served by the choice of two courses within 7 miles.

Luxurious accommodation that easily accommodated 8 adults and 4 children (5 and under), giving everyone plenty of space. The bedrooms were well appointed with large comfy beds and excellent wet rooms. Two with copper baths in the room. The kitchen was equipped to high standard. There was a large dinning table in the annexe (the one on the patio wasRead more covered in snow!) but the room needed an additional fan heater in the cold snap. The hot tub was great fun in the snow. Hide

11 of us stayed for 3 nights at Mill Farmhouse during storms, floods and rain and had a wonderful time. The house is amazing with 6 beautifully appointed bedrooms each with its own bathroom. The kitchen was clean and modern and we were all able to fit around the table in the dining area. The location and views were outstanding. As we catered in eacRead moreh evening we did miss certain equipment and furniture which have been passed on to the owners. We will definitely book again. Hide

Beautiful house. We were a party of 12 celebrating a 60th birthday. All 6 bedrooms were very tastefully decorated each with an en suite so no drawing of straws for the best one. Everything about our stay was perfect, beautiful views of the countryside and close to the village with a couple of pubs. We were all sad to leave.
