Enjoy a unique escape and sit in the lap of luxury with your loved ones in this dreamy coastal haven backed by the North York Moors.

Under a mile from the beach and 3 miles north of bustling Whitby, you will find this fabulous old school house in Sandsend. This three-bedroomed holiday cottage on the Yorkshire Coast has been completely refurbished into a beautiful retreat, perfect for those who love to feel the sand between their toes just minutes from the door.

The interior style is New York loft apartment meets seaside chic. All of the character of this gorgeous building has been retained and given a 21st-century makeover. Comfortable and eclectic furniture sits against a pale backdrop, with dramatic dashes of colour and brooding seascapes thrown in. It's a peaceful, bright and comfortable look.

The heart of the house is the dramatic open-plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen with its double height ceiling and New England clapboard walls. This amazing space is divided into separate areas. There's a cosy corner with soft sofas to chill and watch TV by the wood burner and the dining/kitchen area where you can pop open a bottle of bubbly and enjoy everyone's company while you cook something delicious. And for your entertainment, SkyTV, a DVD Player and Wi-Fi is all included.

There are three bedrooms in the cottage, two at ground level. The first is a grand double bedroom with a king-size bed and windows at either side. The second bedroom is a super-cute twin room, with two single beds. Children will love this one! There is also a family bathroom on this floor with a bath and shower overhead. The third bedroom is upstairs - a generously sized double room with an en-suite bathroom and bath. Please note as this room is in the eaves of the house there are deep steps to the bedroom area and bathroom.

Outside you'll find a large lawned garden to enjoy, with the sound of the sea flowing up the valley towards you. It's the perfect spot for the kids to run around and blow off some steam. Next door to this luxury Yorkshire Coast cottage you'll find a lovely boutique bar and restaurant. So if you feel like letting someone else do the breakfast one morning just pop in. And in the evening you can mosey over to the bar and snug for a little pre-dinner aperitif or stop in the restaurant for a slap-up meal, the best of both worlds!

Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

Please note there is a refundable £250 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

The property is set in the beautiful and very popular village of Sandsend - you can be walking along the beach within minutes of leaving the house as it is less than a mile away. Tucked away at the end of a quiet valley looking down towards the sea, this luxury Yorkshire cottage is also just a few miles from some of the most stunning scenery in the North York Moors.

Sandsend is set on the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline; a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, you can indulge in a classic English seaside holiday. That's not to say it's stuck in the past, in fact, the Yorkshire Coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket restaurants and champagne bars.

Sandsend itself is a gorgeous little seaside village. With its handsome promenade, long stretch of beach, several excellent eating options and world-class day spa, you could happily spend your whole holiday here.

The property is also just a few miles from the beautiful town of Whitby. With its wonderful seaside heritage, excellent restaurants, independent shops and host of bars and cafes along its medieval streets, it has so much to offer the discerning holidaymaker. It's also well worth striking out to sample some of the other coastal villages nearby. Robin Hood's Bay (8 miles) is one of the most popular coastal locations in Yorkshire. The village is a maze of cobbled streets and higgledy-piggledy houses which seem to tumble down towards the sea. Staithes and Runswick Bay are also both within 8 miles, each with their own unique charm.

Head inland from the cottage and you can be in the heart of the North York Moors within minutes. Take a tour of the impossibly pretty towns and villages in the area or head up on the high moorland of Castleton Rigg (15 miles) - we guarantee on a clear day it will take your breath away.

Fabulous weekend, great property & location. Very friendly owner who was at hand for anything required. Our only concern was that the beds were a little uncomfortable.

Fab place to stay really enjoyed it, make sure you try the food from next door, we even had it delivered to the cottage! Yum. Cottage as everything you need but could do with one more comfy chair in the room for when there are 6 of you!

The best self catering rental we have stayed in. The location is outstanding with total peace and quiet, easy walk to the clean, long, long sandy beach that stretches to Whitby. Our host was available if we needed anything but respected our privacy that was most refreshing. The welcome gifts were very much appreciated. The accommodation is spotleRead moressly clean and fresh smelling (unlike a cottage we rented earlier in July that smelt of dogs), it is bright and airy with secluded spots to sit back and relax on the wicker garden sets and enjoy the sun. The sofas are really comfy and clean and the bed linen was of high quality. As we like to cook on holiday some newer non-stick pans would have been appreciated but overall the kitchen is well stocked with equipment and has a large fridge freezer and great cooker. The downstairs bathroom was fantastic with a good shower and large bath. We highly recommended this accommodation for a holiday. This will be our 'go to' UK rental. Hide

On arrival the outside of the cottage was completely overgrown and dirty, garden furniture covered in bird poo and bbq completely unusable. Inside the floor is absolutely filthy and ripped in parts. I appreciate this cottage is dog friendly but do not expect to be covered in other peoples dog hairs,Read more the cottage was not cleaned thoroughly, dishwasher was still full of pots and pans ect and had to wash utensils before use as they was all dirty.Beds like rock, need replacing. Only plus was that the bedding and towels were clean. The owner was no where to be seen throughout our entire stay, the fridge was faulty and I left her numerous voicemails and she never even bothered to ring us back. The cottage is in a lovely location but we would never return.

Response from Gorgeous Cottages:

Hi Megan. Thank you for your constructive feedback. All comments are taken seriously and passed on to our owners so they can keep to the high standards we expect from a Gorgeous Cottage. A thorough review has taken place with the housekeepers and I can confirm all the points raised have now been resolved. Unfortunately during your stay there was a terrible storm which caused turmoil with phone lines , tv connections and extra debris in the garden. Due to storm the gardener was unable to attend the garden at The School House as planned this again has now been resolved, We are very sorry that on this occasion your impression was marred by the oversite of the cleaners and the bad weather, we do agree the location is lovely and do hope you come back to Yorkshire very soon. Take Care Marion. Hide

Beautiful house in a stunning location. Such a shame the courtyard is so neglected, overgrown with weeds and dirty broken decking. Still enjoyed our 2nd stay at the School House though. I'm sure we will return...
